Such a nice review from the World Federation of International Music Competitions about our Beethoven Triple performance in Jyväskylä last month:
“[The Rilian Trio’s] dedication, their raw musicality, and their joy in playing together were so infectious that the orchestra found itself getting carried away as well, lost in the moment during Beethoven’s C Major Concerto for Violin, Cello and Piano.” /news-media/summit-great-talents

There are so many people to thank. First, to the jury for their support and belief in us. To @jaanots00 and the @jyvaskylasinfonia for their fun collaboration on the Beethoven Triple Concerto in the final round! To the Canada Council for the Arts Instrument Bank @canada.council for the loan of the David Liam’s 1690 Francesco Rugeri cello and Daniel’s 1700 “Taft” Stradivarius, and to the CANIMEX Group @groupe_canimex for graciously loaning bows to both David Liam and Daniel. We’re glad to represent the Canada Council instrument bank internationally with two beautiful Cremonese Canada Council instruments in our trio! To the Queen Elisabeth Music Chapel @musicchapel for their support the past two years. And of course, thank you to the competition staff and volunteers who were so friendly and organized, and who allowed us to just focus on making music. We loved our time in Finland and hope to be back soon!!

RILIAN TRIO PLAYS BEETHOVEN — We are pleased to be releasing pieces recorded last year in Toronto, beginning with Beethoven’s very first publication, his Piano Trio Op. 1 No. 1 — an explosion of joy onto the music scene. Thanks to Triple Pointe Media (Stelth Ng, video; Matt Antal, audio) for their excellent artistic work!

On a thunderstormy afternoon on the 12th of July, The Good Shepherd orchestrated the embarking of a wonder-filled lifetime adventure between two best friends. Walking down the aisle to the “verklempt” section of the Cavatina movement from Beethoven’s Op. 130 Quartet, it was a ceremony overcome with tearful joy.
The sun was beaming as a breeze flowed during the ceremony and the pictures, but as soon as everyone came into the barn for the concert, the deluge of rain started…a perfect pitterpat for some music.
With the best man on piano, we began with a trio version of Faure’s Notre Amour, “Our Love.” Then David serenaded Jenny with a piano and cello arrangement of Prokofiev’s Romeo and Juliet (a special piece for them) and some selections from Schumann’s Dichterliebe (A Poet’s Love). Jenny wrote an original jazz song for the occasion!! And sang it with her Dad on drums and best man on keys. Some more music was played and the concert concluded with “Shine You No More,” a Danish String Quartet jig.
A feast followed and incredible cake was had by candlelight and many fairy lights. Dear friends began to speak about our wonderful and not so wonderful qualities, and our parents went over the time limit. The dancing commenced, and as we had been taking lessons in swing dancing, we got to show off our moves on our first dance “cheek to cheek.” A three piece horn and vocal section got people makin’ groovy dance moves as the sky turned incredible swirls of pinks and purples.
The end was a flurry as we ran through a line of our dear friends and family holding sparklers, frantically hugging anyone we could see as we passed, and we drove away in the yellow bug.
The whole evening was supported and put on by our servant-hearted friends and family who loved on us and our parents in so many ways. We love you and are so grateful for the love you showed towards us in the many excel spreadsheets, the days and hours of set up, the incredible food preparation, and all the other ways in which you offered your hands, your time, and artistic gifts.
David and Jenny❤️
