The stories we told were lit so brightly by Baratunde and his powerful, thoughtful, provocative point of view regarding America, Outdoors. For me, it was an absolute honor to run and direct all six episodes. Through six months of being in the field with Baratunde, a bond was created - collaborating and conspiring and also empowering our exceptional crew to protect the stories and trust of the Americans we met along the way. It was a task we took head on with integrity, ethics and true duty of care to them - and to ourselves - as we met all the challenges of making this physical show. It wasn't easy! My EP and partner-in-crime at Part 2 Pictures, @faycat said it best when she called our crew the dream team. How we produced, told, painted and edited the episodes took this season to the ceiling of its potential. Fay, thank you for giving me the call and entrusting me to helm AO2. When my friends and collaborators Amanda Culkowski and Lorian Thompson asked me to come aboard to conduct the interviews, I knew it would be special - but I didn’t realize just how rare and profound these stories would be. I’m forever indebted to Amanda and Lorian for their trust in me to deliver the goods, and I couldn’t be prouder of what we created together. From deeply personal moments with DMX’s family to an intimate look inside the Wu-Tang legacy, every story we uncovered was a gift. One that is especially bittersweet is the conversation we had with Angie Stone and her son Swayvo—an unforgettable moment that now holds even more weight after her tragic passing yesterday. Her legacy, her love, and her music live on through her talented son. And then there was the day Ol’ Dirty Bastard paid us a visit. While interviewing his son, Weather Park, something happened on set that none of us could explain. But if you know ODB, you know - he was always larger than life. What made this experience even more special was getting to share it with my multigenerational team—talking about the music that made me love music in the first place. These artists shaped culture, and their stories - full of heart, humor, and surprises - reminded me why this music still means so much today. Beyond the emotion and history, this season is also wildly entertaining. The legacy of this show will live on, just like the legends it honors. Working with Nancy Glass and her exceptional team was a true life event. As they de-ice the plane I’m in, about to head to Park City, Utah amidst what might be the biggest winter storm in the US in recent years, I’m reminded of my last time going to Sundance with Bonni Cohen Shenk, Jon Shenk, Sara Dosa and the whole Inconvenient Sequel team in 2017. It’s not a coincidence Greenland is with us today. ‘Silarsuaq Kisimi Naalagavoq’ 🇬🇱✊

I wrote this post a year ago, hoping Trump and his cronies would continue their path of incompetence and discord and be distracted by actual 'presidenting' once he was inaugurated. This joke of interest in Greenland - inspired first by a pitch in the White House in 2019 by mineral entrepreneurs and lobbyists - would dissipate. That did indeed happen, but Trump's back now, and with the illegal act of holding back the Epstein files that will clearly show his disgusting actions with Epstein, the US's invalid invasion of Venezuela, his serious mental and physical decline, and a year of Republican congress proving their unwillingness to do their jobs, I am actually scared he might break our NATO agreements and turn over the cart that created the US's geopolitical safety and incredible economic success since the end of World World Two. Trump must keep his hands off Greenland.
