So on Saturday 18th December, 2022 , myself and two volunteer members of @_cwte decided to visit the neigbourhoods of Foko, Gege and Ita Saku (low-income) communities. After we concluded we had achieved our aim, we walked through the neighbourhoods to link the road. While navigating through the highs and the lows, I casually locked eyes with some grannies who were sitting outside their home and alas, one of them was Grandma Nimota (a two-time beneficiary of our charity visits). She jumped and screamed in excitement and I ran to embrace her. It’s so heartwarming that Biodun was able to catch a portion of it in pictures. She kept saying “awon omo mi, awon omo mi (my children, my children)" until her neighbours were alerted to watch...❤❤ #ChristmasWithTheElderly #cwte2022 #OldnotInvisible

I first met Grandma Modupeola in 2020 on one of our charity visits to a particular low-income community known as Foko in Ibadan, Nigeria. She spent most of her time in a tiny shack and had a table out on front where she sold locally made soaps at 50 naira each. On our first visit, she complained of neglect and mentioned of how people come into her shack and steal the little money she had. When Coronavirus hit the world in 2020 and the lockdown was about to happen, my team and I found a way to reach her and other vulnerable elderly persons in that community. Grandma Modupeola mentioned of days when she barely fed, and how she stays till late in the shack just so she can see people to interact with. By our third visit (usually with monetary gifts and food items), she complained of an excruciating pain in her right leg. I reached out to a few medical friends on what meds can be bought. One time I was in the neighbourhood to check on one of our adopted elderly grandmas and myself and Stephen stopped to check on her (in October). We gave her the little cash that we had on us at the time. Oh well...turns out it was the last time I'd see her on this side of heaven. Today, 17th December, I visited with a volunteer member of @_cwte ahead of our #ChristmasWithTheElderly outreach and the shack was locked. Seeing the table bent over...oh well...I just knew.🖤 When the neighbours told me she's passed, I had to re-echo it in disbelief cause even though Grandma Modupeola was well-stricken in age, it still hurts that she's gone. 🕊️🕊🕊 I'm glad we succeeded in putting smiles on her face even if it was a few times. It was a pleasure to have been a miracle. You can be someone's miracle too. Please check on your elderly parents/neighbours today. It really means a lot to them.❤❤❤ #ChristmasWithTheElderly #ChristmasWithTheElderly @dhewumi #OldnotInvisible #oldpeople #veteransupport #elderlycaregiving #NGOsinNigeria #charity #eldercare

...endlessly, they wait... ...for the next hello, visit or even a phone call from their loved ones. Old age has its limitations and challenges and it is best spent with family and loved ones. And in this very busy world that we all are in, please find a way to be a "miracle" to your elderly family members and neighbours. They NEED you! Aged persons are not invisible...someday soon, you will become one too. #ForTheLoveOfTheElderly #cwte #ChristmasWithTheElderly #elderlyoutreachesinNigeria #elderlypeople #carehomes #oldage #aging #OldnotInvisible

I run an outreach to vulnerable elderly person in low-income communities and on the official Tshirt of my organization, I have the inscription "Dear Rolasesi..." (which is like an open letter to Rolasesi) This is Rolasesi, my late grandmother. She died on this day, exactly 5 years ago at the age of 92. Today my sister wrote: "My grandma was such an amazing woman, dogged, kind, hardworking and resilient. She lived in a time when women had little options as far as career and building wealth was concerned yet she made a name for herself and ran businesses. Grandma is the first feminist I know. She stood against an arranged marriage despite the repercussions. I miss mummy agba and I am grateful for the years I enjoyed your presence". On every of the outreach to vulnerable veterans, I remind the universe that my Grandma, Adediwura Rolasesi Akinbobola walked this earth. She was here. She lived. She loved. Until her death, Grandma Rolasesi was beautifully married to my adorable grandpa Chief Akinbobola. Their love was so endearing. So so much! Grandma was a pace-setter. Someday, you'll hear her story. Rest on grandma, you truly lived. #cwte #elderlyoutreachesinNigeria ##dogood #hope #volunteering #instagood #philanthropy #humanity #givingback #nonprofitorganization #carehomes #elderlycare #fortheloveofelderlypersons

"Check on your elderly parents and neighbours. Last night, a friend told me about an elderly woman who was ill, neglected and died due to starvation. The tears stung my eyes. I am all the more reminded of why I do what I do. I just wish people knew that the scriptures can never be broken. No amount of good deeds/prayers will give you long life if you dishonour (and neglect) your parents...esp in their old age."                                                     ----Adesewa . . #humanityfirst #humanitarianaid #elderlycare #volunteering #elderly #philanthropy #helpthem #notforprofit # #volunteer #contribute #socialservice #cwte #VeteranFoodBank #carefortheelderly #oldage #carehome #caregivers #elderlyoutreachesinNigeria
