Crying in Wonderland - a 5 song EP by me, coming out on my birthday (tomorrow). Opening track written with @slowshudder / @s2xs__
dumb guy philosophy below, you’ve been warned 👇
I started working on my first album a couple years ago, first as a simple concept in 2022: I wanted to write about what it felt like to fall in love as a kid, specifically at a theme park; spending all day with someone you have a crush on, the moments of tension that are built, and the pay off of the evening fireworks. I started to explore further what those feelings mean as you grow older, and how we can look back on these adolescent heartaches with something resembling fondness, or some sort of saccharine nostalgia.
I started working on it in earnest in 2023, and I quickly wrote 12 full songs I really loved. The problem with constantly evolving your art, however, is sometimes your ability to speak a creative language can’t keep up with what you’re trying to say.
In 2024 I spent a lot of time writing and rewriting songs while working on new material. However, I felt like I kept ruining what I liked about the original music. Long story short, I’ve decided to take 5 of the songs I made and put them all together - this is the core narrative structure of Crying in Wonderland, a 12 song album distilled into 5 that speaks to where my head and my capability was at back then. I hope you enjoy it, and I hope it captures the same strange nostalgia I felt while I was writing it. These are a snapshot of a different version of me, and it feels like a bit of a farewell to the old Cosmicosmo.
I think I’m ready to write something real this time. ♥️
