Boards to Beats is an immersive, hands-on lab that reimagines skateboarding as sound. Emerging from Nairobi’s skate culture, this gathering brings together skaters, DJs, producers, and adventurous listeners to uncover the rhythm hidden in wheels, concrete, and motion.
Led by Hasira Hasara (
@thehasirahasara ) and Caleb Kiteme (
@_clebz ), in collaboration with the dynamic crew at GirlSkate Nairobi (
@girlskate_nairobi ), the session journeys through deep listening, field recording, sampling, and collective beat-making. Participants will capture raw skate sounds and transform them into textured loops, rhythms, and short sonic pieces through guided exploration and playful collaboration.
With the Skate & Sound Collective contributing their energy, the workshop is anchored in exchange learning together, building together, and stretching creative boundaries together.
Expect to rethink how movement in public space can become musical language, how friction, speed, and impact can evolve into groove and atmosphere.
Whether you’re on the board, behind the decks, or simply curious about new creative processes, this is an open invitation to experiment, connect, and craft something unexpected from the everyday.
