~ FINALLY! The opportunity at ESA gave me the chance to finish this little project... an overview of Scarborough's queer history; 13 entries, each entry is linked to a location on the map. The zine explores Scarboroughs historic LGBTQ+ venues, it's famous faces and key events... 🌀

A3 8-page folded zine CMYK̶ (3 colours)
~ On my residency, I had a bit of time to make an extra zine. 'to be there for the first time' draws directly from my sketchbooks using text, poetry, doodles and collage. Also doubles up as poster zine. CMYK printed, put I left out the black layer because I liked it how it ended up looking. ✨

✨We’ve loved having artists stay with us as part of their Riso Residencies over the summer.
We’ve been catching up with the artists to find out more about their practice, what they got up to during the residency, and what motivates them to work with Riso.
Next, we chatted to Joel Hague, an artist interested in letterpress and heriatge, exploring ‘print’ as a queer mode of making.

Thoughts & updates:
1~ Completed the zine wahoo!
2~ Onto another now...this time CMYK.
3~ Also managed to play around and make two new prints.
4~ A new print of a silly map I drew when I was daydreaming. The halfway feeling.
5~ Lots of lovely food today.

✹ Riso Residency (Day 2) ✹
Thoughts & updates:
1~Portable scanners get full at 32gb. Don't accidentally buy 256gb because you weren't concentrating.
2~Image saturation. Whoops!
3~There's a less steep route to East Street Arts, over the bride and far away.
4~ Don't expect riso to be perfect Joel, never is.
5~ Move 12mm to the right for better alignment.
6~ Sacrificed two of my maps to fluro orange. Ouch! You have to sacrifice a few I've noticed.
7~ I'll die happy if I pull this zine off.

✹ Riso Residency (Day 1) ✹
Thoughts & updates:
1~Riso printers are sleepy machines. They groan and rattle.
2~The ink drum reminds me of a splindly skeleton in a machine body. I always get nervous changing the drums!
3~I will map forever. I love mapping things.
4~Working with a lot of teal and light blue.
5~Alvin the chipmunk is a freelancer to work for the RISO company.
