For 24 years Opening Act has been providing free after school theatre programming to dozens of NYC public schools. My experience with Opening Act spans 11 years during which my roles ranged from student to present Board member. Needless to say, this organization is in my bones. It was a huge catalyst for my interest in storytelling, my love for acting, and my deep respect for community.
As a former student, I’ve experienced and witnessed OA expose hundreds of young people to theatre and consequently help them find their voice, community, and CONFIDENCE.
What I find most remarkable about this organization is that its investment in its students does not cease once they graduate from school. We all know how daunting and disorienting post-secondary life or “adulting” can be. Opening Act has remained an anchor and guide for so many alumni, myself included.
