[TITLE]: "LIGHTNESS"
[ARCHIVAL NOTES]: From 2214 to 2281, the production, distribution, and viewing of "philosophical" material was made illegal. It was believed that such material may not only create unrest among the consumer class, but also disrupt HIDs, MOTs, and SMAs (sentient machine-agents). Despite this, multiple actors illegally published and distributed such banned material on the datastream, even if it meant risking a thousand simulated years of imprisonment. No arrests were made during this time, and by the end of 2281, "philosophical" material was made available for consumption again.

[BEGIN TRANSMISSION]
From the book "Superuser Access" by Camila Gracian-Lopez (published 2103)
"...the point of life lies in the lack thereof; life, as it is inherently devoid of meaning, is by our own power and choice granted meaning. To cope with the meaninglessness of life, there are some infinitely wiser than myself who dedicated their entire lives to devising systems of ethics and writing treatises for human behavior. In part, I presume, to cope with the unimaginable burden of such pointlessness. An awareness of this reality places a great but invisible weight on human consciousness, a weight that has been carried since even before The Great Times, thousands of years ago, in the time of Laozi and Socrates, and the like.
Where the Greco-Romans have been right, I believe, is in the ideal of a "flourishing" life, a virtuous existence, as it were. In the face of such a burden, they sought to hold the self to a standard decided on through reason and value. But in the self whose consciousness has been uploaded and downloaded to the webstream, in the self whose existence is predicated on the perpetual functioning of The Cloud, in the self whose value is quantified in UD and PB, can humans still flourish? Can humans live a meaningful life when the value of life is reduced to the space we can afford to rent out-- or the space we can sublet-- on The Cloud?"
