Weeks posts
My thought going into a 22 hour debate was regardless of the result, the push for accountability we are seeing would not be possible without those demonstrating for weeks on end for real change. We must empower our citizens to have a voice in how we’re policed because we know that not all laws are enforced equally. Until we stand up and say enough is enough when it comes to race-based violence, until we put an end to the decades of violations against the civil rights of residents across this country and in our state, equality among our people will remain out of reach.

Last week, the @bsl_educational_foundation hosted a group of political and community leaders to celebrate Dr. MLK and Unity. In a world often divided by differences and negativity, we must come together to build a future grounded in our shared values. Imagine a vibrant network of support where understanding and collaboration flourish—this is where our true strength lies! As we tackle the urgent challenges facing our communities, let’s shift our focus toward unity, working hand in hand to protect and fight like hell to ensure a brighter tomorrow for all. Let’s harness the incredible power of unity! #Humanity #Hope #Action

And just like that, mission accomplished... Thanks, @abdulrahmaanimuhammad , for the invitation — great workout! Oh, and after nearly two years of running a podcast, Abdul and Zo finally invited me to their 100th episode of the Manhood Podcast 🙄. Crazy right!? Just glad I made it 🤣

Grateful. Humbled. Energized. This past weekend at the 94th Eastern Region Convention (@alphaeast7 ) of @apa1906network in Atlantic City—The Era of Value, Impact, and Progress—I had the honor of leading a powerful conversation during the IMPACT Sessions: “From History to Action: Brothers in the Fight for Justice.” What made the session meaningful wasn’t just the dialogue—but the depth, the honesty, and the shared commitment from Brothers across the House to move beyond awareness and into action. In my role as CEO of the @socialequitycouncil , I see every day how policy, systems, and access shape outcomes in our communities. That perspective grounded our discussion as we unpacked real issues—voting rights, criminal justice, health equity, and the impact of emerging technologies—and what it requires of us, as Alpha men, to lead with intention in this moment. Special thanks to ERVP @thealphavip for the opportunity, and to my fellow panelists for bringing both expertise and lived experience to the conversation. Proud to stand alongside my Brothers of @bslalphas and represent the ongoing work of the Racial Justice Commission. This weekend was a reminder: Our legacy is strong—but our responsibility is stronger. #AlphaPhiAlpha #BSL #RacialJustice #Leadership #SocialEquity

Alpha Day at the Capitol — rooted in purpose, driven by impact. Grateful to my Brothers, State Representative @kadeemrobertsct and @senatorgaston , for hosting the brothers of @oneca_alphas and creating space for meaningful engagement at the Capitol. This is what leadership in action looks like. To our esteemed panelists—thank you for bringing depth, insight, and real solutions to the conversation. And to the full membership of the Black and Puerto Rican Caucus, your support was not just appreciated—it was necessary. You continue to stand in the gap where policy meets people. To @bslalphas and all the Brothers who showed up—thank you. Presence matters. Engagement matters. Brotherhood in motion matters. This year’s theme—Equity and Affordability—is not just a talking point. It’s a call to action. We’re not here to admire the problem—we’re here to move policy, shift systems, and deliver outcomes. From housing to healthcare, from economic opportunity to access—equity must be intentional, and affordability must be real. Let’s stay locked in. Let’s stay active. Let’s stay accountable.

I was honored to attended Alpha Day at the Capitol, which was hosted by myself, Representative Kadeem Robert’s, and former Representative Brandon McGee. Today, our responsibility is to carry the spirit of activists who came before us and that the legacy of justice and service lives on through our work today.

Today was about more than a panel—it was about power, alignment, and accountability. I had the opportunity to join leaders from across the state at the Puerto Rico | Puerto Ricans in Connecticut Policy Summit, where the focus was clear: building a real economic agenda that moves our communities forward—not just in theory, but in practice. As CEO of the @socialequitycouncil —and as someone who has sat in those legislative chambers—I don’t take these moments lightly. Because I’ve seen what happens when policy is disconnected from people… and I’ve also seen what’s possible when we get it right. Let me be clear: equity is not symbolic. It is economic. And for communities hardest hit by the war on drugs, the work is not done until those same communities are not just included—but are prosperous, thriving, and leading in this new economy. That’s the standard. That’s the mission. And I’m committed to seeing it through.

This is what leadership looks like. As a former elected official, now serving as CEO of the Connecticut Social Equity Council—and as National Co-Chair of the Racial Justice Commission of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc.—I understand that policy is not abstract. It’s personal. It shapes who has access, who has opportunity, and who gets left behind. On April 9, we’re bringing that conversation directly to the Capitol. We are also excited to have our very own, @ctsots Stephanie Thomas join us for the day! Alpha Day at the Capitol is about more than presence—it’s about purpose. We’re convening leaders, advocates, and community voices to engage real issues tied to Equity + Affordability: economic mobility, education, health equity, voting rights, and criminal justice reform. This event is free and open to the public. If you care about where our communities are headed, you should be in the room. 🔺 Brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha—this is a call to show up, be visible, and be engaged. Register now and be part of a coordinated, informed presence. 📝 Register: link in bio Let’s not just talk about change—let’s help shape it. #AlphaDay #LeadershipInAction #EquityMatters #AlphaPhiAlpha
