Opening weekend is done, but we’re not finished. @fayloband and @neefjewentelteefje play live at Stadsgalerij, right in the middle of IJZER GEDIERT.

- Meet the artist! -
Miekie Capello records personal narratives and collective memories into bodies of clay. They amplify intimate moments by leaving around little presents. Her work challenges to stay present and practice attentiveness towards our surroundings.

Miekie capello legt persoonlijke verhalen en collectieve herinneringen vast in keramiek. Deze versterken intieme momenten door kleine cadeautjes achter te laten. Haar werk daagt je uit om aanwezig te blijven en door het uitoefenen van zorg naar onze omgeving.
- Meet the artist! -
Sam maakt sculpturen. Hij verzamelt gevonden objecten en bouwmaterialen, sommige liggen jaren te wachten, andere worden meteen gebruikt.
Zijn proces is intuïtief en gebaseerd op experiment. Dit creëert een gevoel van vrijheid, waarin spel en ontdekking het werk vooruit stuwen.
Tussen spontaniteit en de drang om dingen te laten “kloppen” onderzoekt Sam een ruimte waar structuren ontstaan via proberen, associatie en verbeelding. De kijker wordt uitgenodigd om daarin mee te gaan.

Sam makes sculptures. He collects found objects and building materials, some wait for years, others are used straight away.
His process is intuitive and based on experimentation. This creates a sense of freedom, where play and discovery drive the work forward.
Between spontaneity and the urge to make things “click”, Sam explores a space where structures emerge through trial, association and imagination. The viewer is invited to come along.

Jitske creates multidisciplinary installations in which diverse elements merge into strange atmospheres. Her art explores the relationship between time, transiencey, and human experience. Our instincive candour supressed by the weight of our own constructs and expectations.
What does it mean to be human? How does our environment shape our understanding of humanity? In our fast paced world, she invites viewers to slow down and rediscover the wonders of the everyday.
At the core of her practice lies the believe that objects are vessels for memories. Shaped as much by experience as the proces of their creation. With attention for detail and patience embedded in the material. She creates tactile traces of her own existence, artifacts that will hold their own memories one day. Carrying echos of both the maker and their encounter. Long after she is no longer present herself.
During Bij/Na, Jitske shifts her foccus away from immersive installations, experiencing how a small series of objects can stand alone and carry their own narrative within a space.

Heba is an interdisciplinary artist who uses performative practices as a canvas that allows different media to come together. Her practice includes costume making, spaces altering, digital art-ing to music making, vocaling and frolicking (dancing).
“When I find a branch I admire I break it off a tree without hesitation. When the moon is full enough to enter my bedroom, and the wind strong enough to sneak down my sleeves I resent them. For being intrusive, for not asking for my permission. I call myself nature and I am, yet I often find myself in a fight against it. Where does that stem from and how does it look like? For this residency I’m exposing the brutalist in me, my human-centrism that borrows and doesn’t put back. My material and embodied exploration will be flirting with themes such as; forced and alienated naturism, competition and paranoia“

Charly werkt als scavenger. Afgedankt textiel en natuur haar prachten verzamelen zich in Charly’s atelier.
Via de paardenbloem vind Charly de vormen en woorden om te delen wat voor hun momenteel centraal staat: langzamer leven.
Met folklore, tarot, runes en kruidenmedicijn verdiept Charly zich in de rijke betekenis van de paardenbloem.
Charly works as a scavenger. Discarded textiles and natures pearls are collected in Charly’s studio. Through the dandelion, Charly finds the shapes and words to share what is currently central to them: living more slowly.
Through folklore, tarot, runes, and herbal medicine, Charly delves into the rich meaning of the dandelion.

Niek Opstals blends numerous techniques to navigate identity, dissociation and the overstimulation of our times. He tries to capture what can’t be described with words. His layered artworks explore the tension between blur and control, clarity and chaos, inviting you to feel, not just look.
