Breaking Binary #breakingbinarydoc is a documentary portrait project following the lives and stories of people who identify outside the gender binary. Built around the belief that real stories can change minds and build understanding and empathy.
Gender nonconforming people are still widely misunderstood. There is a lack of information, representation, and care in our society. Documentary is how we respond to that. Through photography and film, we get close to people’s lives, listen, and let their stories speak.

We first met through Lemonade Queers and wanted to know more about them. We talked about identity, gender and belonging - and when we asked them to share a moment connected to who they are, they brought us into a ritual of land and self.
Witnessing this was a gift - a moment with the earth, with self, with something beyond.
