‘Shuck’ is a fantasy body horror that explores the consequences of treating our bodies as mouldable objects in the pursuit of perfection. The film is driven by long takes, slow push-ins, and a very naturalistic approach where the horror lives under the surface, not announced by the lighting or the camera.
To create a grounded, lived-in reality, where the image feels familiar, allowing the unease to creep in quietly we needed consistency & control in our sunlight, dusk, blue hour, and night. Although shot on location, the house effectively became a constructed set spread across two floors carefully planned, lit, and executed within 10-hour workdays made possible by our lighting department led by

For the camera, we paired the
@arri Alexa Mini with
@leicauk Summicrons for their clean but slightly warmer rendering and subtle edge distortion. Movement was deliberately restrained, limited almost entirely to a slider. This controlled, minimal approach created a quiet tension, as if the characters were confined, able to move only within strict boundaries. The result was an image that feels composed and contained, reinforcing the psychological and physical entrapment at the heart of the film.
