MELT ICE! This image has been hitting me differently since volunteering with youth recently & showing up for them yesterday despite feeling so broken hearted. At the Youth Festival in Boyle Heights yesterday there was a CODE WHITE added to walkie codes... These youngsters who volunteered for community & experience unfortunately also gained experience in dealing with ICE & a possible active shooter. THIS IS NOT NORMAL!
There was a skate park set up for the block party & it broke my heart to hear it wasn't busy like in years before. Meanwhile, kids on skateboards getting shot at & tear gassed??? No. THIS IS NOT NORMAL
We were supposed to be giving away all this cool stuff & we struggled to collect raffle tix... OF COURSE understandable to keep the kids home, keep them safe. But the kids should be enjoying summer! THIS IS NOT NORMAL!
I don't usually come on here to speak I rather connect IRL... but I feel so helpless.... I'm home alone taking care of my kid, crashing from the week, day 3 of a lingering headache (probably cuz no me cuido) I have the privilege to hold my child & I feel guilt, me caigo but I know I gotta snap out of it.
To anyone who feels like this weight is holding them down.. I pushed through yesterday & I will tomorrow for these niñes. Mine & others, they made me cry I'm so proud of all of them 😭 As a "creative" or whatever I try to do what I can to express myself for my mentalhealth & share whatever little talent I got with others, either through teaching or as a resource. Its easy to feel like this shit doesn't matter rn but we gotta show the kids THEY DO!
They can't feel like they can't have dreams. Let the dreamers dream & let the kids play! Nurture your inner child, do what you gotta do, take a crash day & an advil... Pero push through for the next generation, for yourself, for others.
IDK what my actual point is but I just want to remind myself & y'all to stay strong & like my mom always told me "no te dejes". Stay vigilant of not just la pinche migra but also on the well being of each other & check on the kids 🫂
