It’s once again almost that time of the year to spend the summer back in Beijing, which means keeping the RX-8 in storage and away from the NY car season for a short while. But over the past couple of months the car has gone through a few little here and theres, fixing the clutch and brakes, a new HKS single exit exhaust that shoots flames every now and then, some tiny side skirts and fresh rubbers around the rims. It’s still a huge blast to drive and never stops putting a smile on my face every time sitting in it. I get a lot of people asking me why getting a car like this when there are many reliable options around, and some even hated on it and wanted to cut it out of the “car scene” for some reason. Yes of course it’s high maintenance and the engine might give up a bit quicker than most cars, but if you know what you’re doing then it’s a perfectly reliable car to enjoy everyday.
My family’s first car ever was a 2001 Mazda 323 (Protege), bought it the month before I was born. It was also a 1.3 liter stick shift funny little car to ride around, and I felt lucky to grow up with it, and it might have been the reason that I have got into cars. And I have missed that car a lot more than you can imagine. So being able to get behind the wheel of another stick shift 1.3 liter Mazda means something to me, and I’m happy that I made this impulsive purchase two years ago. Worths all the effort.
