When the first «The Devil Wears Prada» movie dropped, I was a Fashion Editor at @ELLECanada and @ELLEQuebec : behind the scenes, shaping the narrative from the other side of the lens. Twenty years later, I’m in «The Devil Wears Prada 2»: no longer behind the lens, but on the runway, as @ladygaga performs live. A last-minute booking. A shift in casting. A direct request from Lady Gaga for more diversity. On a set filled with the industry’s standard mold, although I wasn’t the only Black model, I was the only 50+ woman with grey hair. A shift in narrative I’m honoured to be part of, and one that the industry is beginning to embrace. Life has a way of surprising you when you least expect it. And sometimes...it just finds you. And no...I didn’t speak with Lady Gaga. I still remember the first time I saw @nadyatoto ’s show in the early 90s. I was a fashion student at @collegelasalle . She was an emerging designer, and the energy in the room was charged with momentum and creative possibility. Over the next 20+ years, working behind the lens, I pulled Nadya’s collection pieces for editorials as Fashion Editor at @ElleCanada and @ElleQuebec . During that same period, I collaborated on her campaigns as creative director and stylist alongside @richardbernardinphoto …Evolving roles within the same creative orbit. More than 30+ years after that first encounter, Puglia brought us back into alignment : her Pugliese origins and my Italian love story.
