I got so swept up in M for Montreal that I totally missed DEAD WEIGHT’s 1 yr anniversary 🥲. I wrote this song through a lot of pain and anger. At the root of it, I wrote it through love. It is a fragile exposure of part of my experience. I didn’t expect this song to go as hard as it has. It is bittersweet that it strikes a deep chord for listeners.
One of the best directional advice Mishka gave me when producing this song was to sing it less and lean into almost speaking/ whispering it. So the focus can be on the actual words I’m saying. That was such a good call.
Making the music video for this was also an awesome experience. Stephan really took the visual inspiration I gave him and ran with it. We had one evening to execute, and thanks to the amazing small team including my manager Malli and projectionist extraordinaire Piazza, we did.
I remember Malli submitting it for editorial playlist while we were shooting the music video.
Considering that making Spotify editorial is like “winning the lottery”, I feel deep gratitude for dead weights placement on two of those playlists.
The cover art for dead weight was actually a photo that was a spontaneous surprise. I was doing a shoot with Ana-Maria and she just randomly proposed this idea after I had already changed out of my clothes I wore for the shoot. Visually, it captured exactly how I feel in regard to the experience that the song is written about.
I can’t explain how I feel when I hear people in a crowded venue sing this back to me.
Thank you for listening and thank you for loving the song.
I left a snippet of the demo towards the end of this carousel. ❤️🩹
Happy 1 yr anniversary “dead weight”. To many more hearts you reach.

Very happy to welcome @_apacalda to the Fair Enough family in sync 🙏
APACALDA is the project of Montreal-based singer and composer Cassandra Angheluta, whose emotionally immersive music blends goth-tinged indie pop and electronic textures into a distinctive alternative sound.
The name APACALDA, meaning “warm water” in Romanian, symbolizes Angheluta’s cultural roots and, symbolically, the sense of healing and refuge she finds through music. With a growing reputation for striking honesty, atmosphere and sharp artistic direction, APACALDA is fast becoming one of Montreal’s most compelling new voices.
