📊 💊 Portugal’s Health sector exports reach a new all-time high, reinforcing the country’s growing role in global healthcare value chains.
In 2025, exports from Portugal’s Health sector totalled €5.65 billion, marking a strong +37.9% increase year-on-year and setting a new historic record 🇵🇹
Pharmaceutical preparations led the sector, accounting for 85.2% of total exports, followed by medical instruments (10.5%), base pharmaceutical products (3.8%) and equipment (0.5%).
Germany emerged as the leading destination market, with the United States, Spain, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Italy, Angola, Denmark and the United Kingdom completing the top 10.
Despite a traditionally negative trade balance, the sector continues to scale internationally, with imports reaching €8.99 billion and an export coverage ratio of 62.8%.
These results highlight the increasing competitiveness, innovation capacity and international demand for Portugal’s Health sector, positioning it as a key contributor to the country’s export performance and global presence.

Na sessão de abertura, o Primeiro-Ministro, Luís Montenegro, destacou a diáspora como ativo estratégico e o papel da AICEP na captação de investimento e internacionalização da economia portuguesa.
No painel “Mapa de Oportunidades em Portugal e no Mundo”, a Presidente da AICEP, Madalena Oliveira e Silva, reforçou uma visão clara: apostar em investimento com valor acrescentado, base tecnológica e forte vocação exportadora, posicionando Portugal em cadeias de valor globais em setores como o aeroespacial e a mobilidade.
Foram ainda sublinhadas as vantagens competitivas do país — energia renovável, talento qualificado, estabilidade e segurança — bem como o potencial de Portugal para liderar ecossistemas tecnológicos e de inteligência artificial.
💬 “Crescer em Portugal para internacionalizar o país” e uma ideia-chave na atração de investimento: “quando um investidor chega a Portugal, já vem meio convencido. O resto decide-se nas condições no terreno”.
Preparar o território, reforçar infraestruturas, melhorar acessibilidades e garantir articulação entre entidades foram também prioridades destacadas.
No painel “Estratégias de Expansão Global”, o administrador da AICEP, Paulo Rios de Oliveira, destacou o papel da Agência no apoio às empresas, assente na internacionalização, captação de investimento, rede externa em +50 países e capacitação através da Academia AICEP.

Paula Gomes da Costa, Managing Director at Körber Campus Porto, shares a clear perspective: access to highly qualified talent, combined with strong institutional support from AICEP and Invest Porto.
Körber established its campus in Porto in early 2020, at the onset of the pandemic. Despite the challenging context, the team quickly grew to 65 people by the end of that year, highlighting the adaptability and flexibility of the local workforce.
Today, the centre employs around 250 professionals across software development, IT, cybersecurity, network support, and financial services, including control and BI analytics.
Portugal is now considered one of Körber Group’s main hubs, with plans to significantly expand operations over the next five years.
With teams working across the country, from Porto to the Azores, Algarve and Viseu, the company reflects the growing reach and flexibility of Portugal’s tech ecosystem.

• Frutorra opened a new €10M factory in central Portugal, increasing production capacity through innovative and sustainable operations
• Infineon Technologies continues to scale its Porto hub, with over 1,000 employees and 150 new hires planned in 2026 to support global digital operations
