Over the years I’ve been asked to paint murals several times and have never had the confidence to accept the jobs. I mostly work in ink and haven’t painted much recently. I dabbled in mural work through my years as a designer at Bass Pro, but was mainly directing what was put on the walls, never actually doing it myself. Finally I manned up and excitedly took this mural project on @the_kingfisher_burrow . It has been quite the learning process to say the least as well as dealing with the space limitations and environmental challenges. Overall I’ve enjoyed everything about this project; the isolation, the inspirational surroundings, the Snook in close proximity, the canned tuna diet, the unexpected visitors, the birds, the sunsets and sunrises, the pitch dark nights on the water, and most of all realizing what I’m capable of doing. Still not done, I could probably work on it for ten years. At this point in the post it’s about 85% completed. Music by my buddy @ghostinthearena 🎧
Finally walked away from this mural at @compoundboardshop ! I know I said I’d never finish and I could probably work on it for another two years adding the missing 246 other elements I felt it needed. However, I need to get back to work on other projects. The original plan was for a somewhat simple greyscale mural with hints of color until those hints of color kept going and took over all of the greys. I basically painted this mural twice spending way more time on it than originally anticipated. Fortunately the Compound crew is one of the best around, they put up with my antics, housed me, occasionally fed me, took me fishing, surfing, and were just incredibly welcoming in every way. I feel like a part of the family now. Thank you to all of my new friends and family for the help and hospitality! Big thanks to @marshwearclothing and @boteboards for helping to make it happen! Time to celebrate its completion with the @theelovaters tonight!!
