2-step (or UK 2-Step Garage) is a subgenre of electronic music that emerged in the late 1990s in the UK, evolving from UK Garage. It is characterized by syncopated, irregular drum patterns, deep bassline and influences from soul, R&B and Jungle.
Artists like Artful Dodger, MJ Cole and Zed Bias popularized the genre. 2-step heavily influenced later styles such as grime, dubstep, and UK Funky, shaping the evolution of UK electronic music.
