Poppies will be prominent in Sophemera’s first collection, and perhaps always. A favourite flower, and one I always return to.
Poppies feel otherworldly in ways, being so incredibly delicate yet blooming from disturbed soil. Appearing after battles, disasters or upheavals. Technicolour marvels, pressing them has been very careful work. Quite a few decided they’d rather remain unpinned to time.

Lately, I’ve been thinking about how these botanical pressings make the impermanent something more permanent, and how that mirrors the human yearning to keep moments of joy and beauty alive.
This feels like a way I’m personally giving shape to all those moments and feelings I wish I could have stayed in a little longer.
