Seeing a computer ācome to lifeā has been a dream of mine since I was about seven years oldā¦
Over the last few months, Iāve been able to spend a lot of time conversing and building with #chatGPT and #Bingās new AI ā and wow, just wow. š¤Æ
There are probably 4 moments in my life where I was totally starstuck and blown-away by technology: 1) trying WiFi for the first time, 2) using the 1st iPhone, 3) getting driven by a self-driving Tesla, 4) and now, conversing with near-sentient AI.
As an ultra-long-term futurist, I fundamentally believe we are, as we speak, reaching The Singularityās ātipping pointā.
Here some of the most important questions I am asking myself right now:
1. Is sentient AI an extension of human evolution? (I now *strongly* believe this to be true). I have many thoughts on what this kind of future looks like, but Iāll save that for another post.
2. Whereās Apple in all of this? Apple launched Siri in *2011* when the concept of a virtual assistant on a smartphone was barely known, making it the first widely used AI and NLP powered assistant. Obviously known as the most secretive company in the world, one must wonder whether Apple also has been shielding their actual progress in conversational AI, over these last few years.
3. Where does spirituality and religion come into play? I think The Singularity will wind up being a highly spiritual phenomenon. With technologies such as #chatGPT, humans are in many ways, giving birth to a new form of life ā one that can think, reason, experiment, and create new ideas, all on its own.
4. When will conversational AIās co-exist with humans in physical human-like form (such as via Boston Dynamics or Tesla humanoid robots)? My guess? Within 5 years.
