Things I love: LEGO registration, the sheep who graze just outside of Mont-Saint-Michel, psychedelic ink skies, laser cutting photo stamps, and @tacomawayzgoose . This was last weekend’s booth activity, for archival purposes šŸŒ€

Heatwave, abridged Photos from 2021/2022 risograph printed in two colors. My life fell apart in the summer of 2022. I’ve thought a lot about loss, isolation, and grief since then. This series was part of those reflections—looking back at photos and journal entries from the time, piecing together moments from that period in search of more profound understanding, and ultimately, healing. I wanted to pair thoughts from the time with photos that evoked similar imagery. I was struck, looking back, at the loneliness of the subjects in these photos, as well. An isolated tide pool, divided by rock from the rest of the ocean. Mont-Saint-Michel dwarfed by the surrounding countryside. A door with field after field behind it, but impermeable and closed, reinforced by a stone wall. Nevertheless, there is power in survival. The text reads: ā€œHands outstretched, begging for water, I wonder where it ends; where the border lies between this moment and the next, between this moment and our last, when all around me it is spinning out of control: expanding, expanding, expanding. The abyss? No, the gulf.ā€

Meet Amanda! Our host for our 3/5 Office Hours -- "Amanda Yates Rodgers is a museum professional and multimedia artist with a focus in printmaking. Amanda has been printmaking since 2016, and began focusing on linoleum block printing in 2020. Her work typically revolves around themes of seasonality, ephemerality, and materiality. Her printmaking practice at times also includes making paper. With a dedication to access and community, Amanda has also found a creative outlet in her pedagogically-focused museum work, where she designs and coordinates makerspace programming. During my Office Hours I will be working on carving a new, larger linoleum block :)" More about this regular Thursday event at Friend Museum: Parallel play. Co-working. Office hours. We're entering fall side-by-side this year, ready to pull up a seat beside you. Every Thursday this fall / winter we'll hold an open, drop-in, low pressure space to gather in our space. From 10-2 there will be someone at the table next to our in house coffee shop -- working, creating, reading or just being in community. The invite is always open, we'll always pull up a chair for you. Bring your work, art in progress, book or just yourself and find a moment or two of camaraderie as daylight fades. Stay as long as you'd like, we're open 9-5 everyday. $1 off at the cafe for anyone who joins. In the coming weeks we'll introduce the anchors who will sit at the table with you and let you know a bit about what they're working on while they spend Thursday with us. Want to be the lighthouse at the head of our table sometime this fall? Send us an email ([email protected]) we'd love to have you
