This is my first ever fixed gear build.
Back then, when I first heard the word “doltrap” around my early twelve, little me was riding a BMX frame with unfinished paint, more like raw steel, with rusty edges here and there. And yeah, that was my first doltrap bike. When I moved to a new house, I left it behind, maybe abandoned, maybe scrapped. Either way, I owe an apology to my little self.
I actually met this bike 4 years ago at my rented place. It’s been sitting there as a “leftover” ever since. Recently found out it belonged to the landlord, so I asked permission to give this rusty crusty thing a second life. Honestly, I doubted the decision at first, was it even worth it? But here we are now, having so much fun.
The frame itself is still in good condition. Found rust layers on the top tube, seat tube, and some other parts, but thankfully no structural issues, no dents, no penyok. I stripped the old paint, and turns out it was cat deco, the kind usually slapped on steel fences HAHAHA terrible moment trying to burn that thing off.
The crankset was seized, but with a little magic from
@cyclocons_id , all cleared. This frame was basically an old road bike with semi-vertical dropouts, slightly bent on both sides. So I brought it to
@dignitymetalwork and let the master finish the job. Now it runs horizontal dropouts, still needs a little touch here and there, but way better, more solid, and ready to scratch the road. • Headset: Strummer EC30R • Stem: Nitto Pearl–style (unbranded), 80mm • Risebar: Alloy unbranded, 580mm • Crankset: Strummer CW-885, 48T, BCD 165mm • Grips: Oxo • Straps: WCYC x Cycletrigger • Pedals: Oxo PD-17 • Hub & lockring: Unbranded, 17T • Rim Tape: Strummer • Tires: Kenda 700x35c • Tubes: Deli Tire • Chain: KMC S1 • BB: Square taper 110 (Shimano Tourney) • Saddle: WTB Silverado Medium • Seatpost: Half GT 25,4
It’s been a while since I connected with something this raw, this honest. I’ll keep the stripped look, maybe sand the rust from time to time, but let the imperfections stay.
More distance awaits. Keep rolling✊🏼
