1100 Ursulines Ave // CICADA Project 2 of 3 that received the 2026 Louisiana Landmarks Society’s Award for Excellence in Historic Preservation. So proud of our preservation work this year!
The rehabilitation of 1100 Ursulines Ave restored a highly altered nineteenth-century building at the edge of Treme. Decades of alterations had obscured the historic facade, including the removal of the first-floor porch and enclosure of the upper gallery. The project was carefully investigated and coordinated through the HDLC, uncovering substantial surviving material, including full-height windows, pediments, attic vents, and fragments of the original turned wood columns. These found elements informed the reconstruction of the building.
Slide 3 shows the BEFORE condition, and the rest of the images show the fruits of our team’s labor :)

What started as a small team of four almost nine years ago has grown into something we’re incredibly proud of — a group of talented, thoughtful, and passionate people pushing each other to do better work every day. We’ve had the chance to take on projects that challenge us, shape our city, and reach beyond it in ways we couldn’t have imagined.
None of it happens without the people in this photo — the creativity, the silliness, the late nights, the problem-solving, and the shared belief in what we’re building together.
We love this city, we love what we do, and we’re excited for what’s next.

Miss Market is officially open at the Batture! 🍻🚢
As a part of the larger park development along the Mississippi River, this adaptive use market marks another milestone in the site’s ongoing transformation. Miss Market is your go-to bodega for a perfect day at the park: beer, wine & cheese, board games, books and other picnic essentials.
The CICADA team is proud to have led the master planning charge for The Batture development, and continues to work with the development team to open local businesses as adaptive use projects within prefabricated marine industrial structures that remained on site from the previous landowner.
And this is still just the beginning!
s/o to @alsoknownas____ for the killer branding 🤙🏽

Grand Isle, Louisiana's only inhabited barrier island, stands at the edge of the Mississippi River Delta where Gulf waters, history, and daily work meet. Many know it for oysters and weekend fishing trips, but there's a rich cultural and architectural story shaped by storms, shifting land, and generations who make a life on the water.
With support from the Louisiana State Historic Preservation Office and the Historic Preservation Fund of the National Park Service, CICADA and Gambrel & Peak, joined by graduate research assistants from Tulane's Historic Preservation program, are launching a survey of about 2,000 structures across the island. Over the coming months, the team will document building types, styles, construction eras, and alterations, paired with photo records, GIS mapping, drone imagery, and select 3D scans.
This project is being jointly led by Matt DeCotiis (M.Arch *12), Allyson Hinz (MSHP *25), and Professor Heather Veneziano, who together are overseeing islandwide mapping, documentation, preservation standards review, and public interpretation. The collaboration connects classroom training with fieldwork while creating a baseline record that can help Grand Isle secure future funding, plan for change, and recognize the value of its working waterfront and historic places.
Rice Vice, Part 2 is officially here
CICADA partnered closely with the owners to design this quaint, Japanese-inspired sake and shochu bar tucked away in the heart of Algiers Point. Together, we shaped a space that feels refined yet simple—clean lines, warm details, and an atmosphere made for slow sipping and good conversation.
This new location follows in the footsteps of its successful big brother in Nashville, where guests can enjoy a great record spinning alongside a perfect glass of sake.
Now Algiers Point gets its own taste of the vibe. Kanpai

The bugs behind the work 🫶. This is a short snippet from a longer video our friends over at @comfystonefilms helped us create, highlighting CICADA. 8 years strong, and just getting started ☺️ LINK IN BIO!
This last week, our team, along with Gambrel & Peak ( @thirdclassrelic ), and the help of graduate students from @tulanehistpres , were on Grand Isle conducting a large-scale architectural survey of all standing buildings and structures on the island.
We got up to quite a lot in just 5 days. In addition to documenting the entire island (which equated to approximately 2,000 structures and buildings total), we had the opportunity to learn, explore, and fully experience the beauty of Grand Isle. We met long-term residents who shared their stories and memories, offering firsthand insight into how the island has evolved over their lifetimes. We explored some of the oldest buildings on the island, with some dating back to the late nineteenth century, and took time to appreciate the incredible natural scenery that defines this place.
We are incredibly proud to be leading such an important project and deeply grateful to the community for welcoming us so warmly. While architectural documentation is the primary focus of this work, it quickly became so much more. It became about listening, learning, and honoring the people and places that make Grand Isle what it is. We are truly honored to help memorialize the history and character of this special place.
Enjoy a few clips from our week!
