Spotlight on @grownmanspeed 🎤 Greg hosts Mic’ Drop—our monthly open mic at The 418 Project, happening the last Sunday of every month From 5:30-8:30pm. This is what it looks like when artists take up space—raw, intentional, and fully their own. Mic’ Drop is a space to show up, share your work, and connect with community. Spoken word, music, movement—whatever you’re holding, there’s room for it here. No gatekeeping. Just real expression and shared space. ✨ Come through or step up to the mic ✨ All are welcome to attend and share #the418project #micdrop #supportartists

Tonight wasn’t a stream. It was continuation. Maestro Desean @maestrodesean — Black LGBTQ wordsmith beyond precision, dismantling fear in real time. Celia DaPoet @celia_dapoet — Black LGBTQ word architect, building with fire and blueprint both. This wasn’t nostalgia. This was active Black history breathing in front of us. They gave us lineage without performance. Mastery without ego. Truth without apology. We didn’t just “host” a conversation. We witnessed architects at work. If you were in the room, you felt it. If you missed it — understand: this is what legacy looks like while it’s still alive. Mic Drop! keeps holding the stairwell between history and now. And tonight? We stood in it together. 🖤

Shizue Seigel @writenow.sfbay reminded us that this country has done this before. During World War II, Japanese Americans — including her family — were imprisoned in U.S. concentration camps because fear was easier than justice. Her performance asked a quiet, devastating question: When policy turns on its own people, who speaks? Who remembers? Who refuses to look away? Tonight, we chose to listen. Grateful for her courage. Tonight the room filled with witnesses. Not just performers — people brave enough to crack their ribs open and let language spill out warm. These photos are proof: community is not a concept. It is breath passing from mouth to mouth. It is risk. It is applause that sounds like survival. I’m still full from it. Grateful beyond measure.
