A love letter to myself Happy birthday Dr. Mrs. Okeze! You are 40! 🎉🎁🥳 And God has answered 🙏🏾 your deepest prayers. I am the wife of the amazing @donokeze . I have birthed 2 beautiful children, who just happen to be the spitting image of their dad 😒. Ibk and Ogo are the manifestation of God’s love in my life. Daddy, Prof O. The original Dr. O, you have always been my first love! For this I am grateful. To my siblings, Bros Da, Bros Olu, Sis @beesimpeh , and @kingtmo ! I love you guys. I am who I am today because of the love you have poured into me. Siblings are the best! To my countless cousins, nephews, nieces, friends, family, in-laws 🥰, co residents, Fiskites 💙💛, and colleagues. I love and appreciate each one of you. Mom, you are not in this earthly world to celebrate this milestone birthday with me. In fact, it is you that deserves all the accolades! You birthed me into this world. I am forever grateful for your love, and will be forever changed by your passing. You would try and call each one of us on our birthdays as soon as the clock struck midnight. So much joy and happiness in your voice. Baba would always be sleeping 🤣🤣. I will miss that call this year 😢. Sun re mama! Sun re Iya! I am learning to live with this grief. Along with daddy and my siblings, we are launching Iya Ase Cares Foundation, to continue your legacy of giving. I am waiting in excited expectation on what God has in store for me. I am His beloved child. Lord, you placed these desires in my heart, and I know that surely they will come to pass! This is 40! This is me! Let the turn up begin!!! Allow me to introduce myself! My name is Lola! Also known as Dr. O. I am a child of Christ 🙌🏾. I am a daughter, wife, mother, and sister. I am a board certified family medicine physician 👩🏾‍⚕️. I was born in Nigeria (Naija 🇳🇬 stand up) (Ekiti stand up) but grew up in Maryland and Ohio 🏈 ! Fun fact, I went to Xenia High school in Ohio and I was really good at high and long jump 🥇. My hubby 🤴🏽is one of my best friends and just gets me. He’s also from 🇳🇬. We have 2 incredible kids, ages 15 months 👶🏾 and 4 years old! Our baby girl 👧🏽 just started kindergarten 🏫. Medicine 🩺 is my passion. Primary care and preventative health is what I do. Treating vulnerable and marginalized populations brings me great joy! On my free time I love to put on makeup and dress up (owambe things). I’m a baby fashionista. I also love to travel, both solo trips and family trips! Motherhood is hard! Work can be hard! Being a wife can be demanding! Doing all 3 is boarder line insanity! I want to advocate for and support this journey for all women. Say hi 👋🏾 and let me know what else you want to know about me!!!! My favorite foods are funnel cakes and Philly cheesecakes 😁 ❤️ Like and drop a comment below. #motherhood #DrMom

On May 12th, PCOS was officially renamed to PMOS (Polyendocrine Metabolic Ovarian Syndrome), and it changes everything about how we treat women’s health. For 100 years, the old name forced the clinical focus entirely onto the ovaries. If you weren’t trying to conceive, your symptoms were routinely dismissed. Labeling it Polyendocrine and Metabolic officially validates what your body has known all along, your chronic fatigue, hair loss, and weight resistance were never a behavioral failure. They are the physiological reality of an untreated metabolic disorder. The science has finally caught up to your symptoms. How many doctors did you have to see before someone actually looked at your metabolic health? Tell me your story below. 🩺 Tag someone who needs to see this!

Motherhood exists in many forms, and every journey deserves to be acknowledged with compassion and care. Today, we celebrate the mothers raising children, the women preparing for motherhood, those carrying silent grief, and those who nurture the people around them every single day. Your love, strength, and presence matter more than words can fully express. Happy Mother’s Day 💐

When you are dealing with the deep, itch and burning of a pelvic infection, desperation kicks in. It is tempting to turn to “natural” internet remedies when you feel like your body is betraying you. But as a doctor, the amount of chemical burns, completely destroyed microbiomes, and worsened infections I see from TikTok trends is alarming. Your vagina is a highly sensitive, carefully balanced ecosystem. Putting food items, essential oils, or scented soaps into that environment does not cure an infection, it actively throws gasoline on the fire. If you are experiencing chronic itching, burning, or abnormal discharge, you cannot blindly guess what the problem is. Automatically assuming it is a standard yeast infection and treating it with OTC creams or coconut oil delays actual care. You could be dealing with Bacterial Vaginosis (BV), a resistant strain of fungus, or an entirely different issue. Stop experimenting on yourself. Schedule a clinical exam with your primary health care provider today!

If you’ve ever experienced the itching and burning of a yeast infection, you know how uncomfortable it can be. Let’s address something important first, this has nothing to do with being “dirty.” Your vagina maintains a natural balance of good bacteria and yeast (Candida). When that balance is disrupted, from antibiotics, hormonal changes, uncontrolled blood sugar, or other factors, yeast can overgrow and cause symptoms. While over-the-counter treatments can help in some cases, recurrent or persistent symptoms should not be self-managed repeatedly. Not every vaginal symptom is a yeast infection, and treating incorrectly can delay proper care. If symptoms keep coming back, it’s important to schedule a consultation with a primary healthcare provider or a gynecologist.

Let’s talk about the actual medical realities of maternal mortality. We see the tragic headlines, but we rarely discuss the clinical details of what is actually happening in those delivery rooms. As a doctor, my eyes are constantly scanning the monitors for four specific threats: Hemorrhage, Pre-eclampsia, Sepsis, and Blood Clots. While it is entirely the medical team’s job to manage these emergencies, knowledge is your strongest armor. Understanding why your doctor is so obsessed with your blood pressure in the third trimester, or why we force you to stand up and walk just hours after major abdominal surgery, changes the way you experience your care. It turns you from a passive patient into an active participant in your own survival. Read through these four major risks, learn the warning signs, and most importantly: never let anyone make you feel “dramatic” for reporting a symptom that feels wrong. Your voice is a vital sign. Use it. Which of these four conditions were you completely unaware of before having kids? Let’s educate each other in the comments. 👇 #MaternalHealth #WomensHealth #Obstetrics #PregnancyEducation #MaternalMortality HealthAdvocate MedicalFacts Physician

As doctors, looking in your mouth isn’t just about checking your tonsils. Your mouth is a highly sensitive indicator of what is happening in the rest of your body. Most bumps, sores, and changes in the mouth are totally harmless and clear up on their own. But when symptoms like persistent sores, unusual patches, or bleeding gums stick around longer than two weeks, it’s time to stop trying to fix it with over-the-counter mouthwash. Whether it is a sign of a hidden sinus infection, silent acid reflux, or active inflammation, catching it early is always the best route. Remember the 14-day rule: if it hasn’t healed in two weeks, have a professional take a look. When was your last comprehensive dental or medical check-up? Drop a comments if you need this reminder to book your next appointment. #OralHealth #PreventativeMedicine #DentalHealth #HealthEducation #MedicalFacts Physician HealthAdvocate PrimaryCare
