Resolute to take on the god Khonshu, Marc comes out the other side reborn as the Moon Knight. It is the decisive moment where the setting remains continuous and all illusions are crumbling to dust. The conclusion was also a way to pay homage to the introduction of the Mr.Knight persona while adapting the iconic cover by Declan Shalvey.

The limbo sequence served as a frenetic passage into rebirth. Sinking quite literally into the depths of his own mind, Marc encounters aspects of his multiple identities refusing to become one and dives into the Othervoid. Based largely on issue 13 of the run, the select panels were key to form this link of symbols while balancing the subtle with the overt ones.

Elements in the story like the ECT machine, corridors, mouthpieces, subway entrances and even drain covers serve as portals into completely unexpected worlds. Each world drawing parallels to Marc’s psychological states mixing the past and present. Flipping switches and ending with a rorschach-esque snap, this sequence was a passage into the surreal moments that take place inside Marc’s mind in this near-death experience.

While on a mercenary mission, Marc Spector was left for dead in the desert. The moon God Khonshu’s idol revived him as the Moon Knight but cost him his own sanity. Jeff Lemire and Greg Smallwood’s run acknowledges these origins but also expands the story by calling all that is known about Moon Knight into question. The revival sequence in issue#14 (swipe to see a part of it) was hugely inspiring with its play on how time plays across panels and words to keep you guessing. This idea of being ambiguous yet continuous became the key ingredient of the vignette and what elements connect each shot. It was about translating this fractured flow from panels to moving images. The focus for the opening was to establish a sense of authority and struggle between the characters while switching between worlds - the temple, the asylum and Khonshu’s void - all still connected by light, sight and gesture.
