Robert Hamblin’s work is informed by human gender and sexual diversity but also the corollaries of this in animals and plants. Born in 1969 in Johannesburg, South Africa, he lives in Cape Town and divides his professional time between Cape Town and Rome. Curator Francesca de’ Medici represents Robert internationally. Hamblin’s work has been exhibited in the Iziko South African National Museum and and his work exists in both public and private collections worldwide. Most recently a work of his was also accessioned by Intuit Art Museum, Chicago, USA. Hamblin is the published author of “A queer and crooked memoir” which Supreme Court Justice Edwin Cameron described as “a remarkable feat that challenges people to examine not just their own sexuality and identity but their very humanity”.
