Juneteenth marks the end of slavery in the United States, but that was only the beginning of the ongoing fight for freedom and justice. It’s a day to honor the resilience of Black Americans and to reflect on the work still ahead. While real progress has been made, the past year has shown just how fragile that progress can be. Efforts to dismantle diversity initiatives, silence honest history, and scapegoat communities of color remind us that civil rights are never guaranteed - they must be protected and advanced every day. We remain committed to truth, to equality, and to the unfinished work of freedom. The promise of “justice for all” cannot be seasonal or symbolic. It must be real and persistent. We'll keep advocating for policies that uplift communities, expand opportunity, and defend the dignity of every person. Let’s celebrate today by recommitting to justice for all. If you're looking for a way to celebrate, join the continuing Juneteenth celebration in Perry Square from 6 to 9pm, hosted by Erie’s Food Policy Advisory Council and Erie Downtown Partnership. This free community dinner will highlight locally-grown goods. Collaborators include Urban Glow and Grow Farm, Black and Green, and Emmaus Soup Kitchen.

The American flag represents our shared values of liberty, justice, and the unshakable belief that we are stronger when we stand together. It has been a beacon of hope for what America can become — and what we must continue to fight for. We believe that fighting for these values is more critical than ever. While our president chose today to honor himself with an expensive military parade, we’re choosing to celebrate Flag Day and all that it means. On this Flag Day, we renew our commitment to the democracy our flag represents and to building a future rooted in opportunity for all.

“democrats have abandoned the working class” is a not only demonstratively inaccurate - it’s a claim made, sometimes by our own, in bad faith. being the party that champions civil and human rights ≠ abandoning working class people. the two go hand in hand - they always have. the sooner we stop letting the media propagate this destructive lie, the sooner democrats get the majorities we need to help all boats rise.
