Hello and welcome to this year’s 7 Dials Trail - our biggest trail yet.
With four new venues joining us this year, we continue to offer a vibrant range of fresh new faces alongside established favourites.
Perfectly placed in the heart of the city, our trail boasts internationally renowned painters, award-winning designers and exciting emerging artists - we also have fabulous boutique shopping experiences, plus a wealth of delicious refreshments in beautiful garden settings. Also, back by popular demand, we even have a pop-up brewery.
Thanks as always to our sponsors, who help make the trail such a huge success. So whether you are a visitor or long-time resident, please do support all the independent business across the city as you enjoy the festival.
(Long-time Seven Dials trail member Cecil Rice is taking a well-earned year off this year, but be assured, Cecil will be returning as usual next May!)
We will be introducing the venues and sponsors over the next few weeks. But in the meantime you can visit the Artists Open Houses website and see who is taking part this year. Link is in the bio.
We look forward to welcoming you soon!

I am inspired by the idea of places having sacred personal meaning. This artwork is my effort to capture the essence of an autumn afternoon in Hove when the sky turns pink and feels electric. I am determined to capture one of those Hove sunsets that leaves you in awe.
For this piece, I worked with acrylic and pastel on tissue paper, building up layers of paint to give the paper thickness and texture. I love the lightness and fragility of working on crinkled paper, especially when capturing the movement of clouds and water.
My paintings have a bold and bright colour palette which I attribute to my childhood on the sunny east coast of Australia in the 80s. Now I’m applying these colours to the landscapes of Sussex.

‘Banho de Floresta’
Inspired by a journey in Brazil where I was lucky to spend two months this year this is one of my sketches I painted whilst traveling. Comparing and contrasting between the very organised botanical gardens and the beautiful chaos of the rainforest, and trying to capture the sensorial experience of what I saw and felt. In the evening evening I would paint abstract patterns in my sketch book with washes of colour and then the next day draw over them with what ever I saw…from these I have created a set of limited edition prints inspired by rain forest bathing reflecting on the concept of immersion beyond water, in a breathing landscape where bathing becomes atmospheric, encountering filtered light, humidity, and the quiet vitality of the forest.
⭐️ ARTIST PROFILE ⭐️ Jonny Hannah @darktownresident from Print House @printhouse_38 , number 18 on the @7dialsart trail
⭐️
Jonny’s work embodies a mixture painting, drawing and printing techniques to create rich and sometimes dense images. He is greatly inspired by music and fictional characters and these create a strong narrative in his work.
The visual language and pastiche in Jonny’s work clearly represents his interests and this in turn has led to commissions that blur the lines of work and pleasure. He also plays in his ‘midlife crisis’ band The Postmen where he can be seen with his distinctive blue Gretsch Streamline guitar.
It’s evident that Jonny loves what he does and works profusely whether on commercial projects or something of his own invention. He creates limited edition screen and lino prints as well as books and printed collages. He is also represented by the Heart Agency.

We are pleased to welcome Sharon James Alderton as the latest addition to our browser range.
After many years working in the fashion industry, Sharon turned to her original love of Printmaking. A weekend Workshop at Edinburgh Print Makers studying the art of Japanese Woodcut sparked a renewed love of all things print and pattern.
She is heavily inspired from the world of Fashion, Textiles and Interiors as well as Urban Landscapes of cities. Layering is an important part of her print work, using textures and patterns together with a pop of colour amidst the monochromes.
Sharon prints at bip-Art in Brighton and displays through her website .
We look forward to welcoming you over the coming weekends. #woodcutprints #brightonart #artistsopenhouses #texiles
