Well the day has come. After a couple of years thinking about it, I finally put up a Six Organs Patreon. Yes, I have 25 years of archives to offer but mostly I’d like to use this as a way to stay creative inbetween records and tours. There’s only so many records one can out in a year (and I’m really pushing it this year). I’d also like to have more direct contact with people. There’s even a Six Organs discord (I kind of run the Head Voice discord and a couple others so was easy to get going). There are all sorts of rewards set up for different levels, from early access to merch to archival stuff to TABs or videos on how to play songs I’ve done from Six Organs and other bands to Hexadic charts you can use for yourself to make music. I’m hoping we can create something of a new musical/social space. The first post is up now and public and has a song I recorded for my proposed For Gaston Bachelard record (the follow up to For Octavio Paz so has a similar vibe), as well as some Hexadic charts. Feel free to head over there and just download the song even if you don’t feel like joining. Link in bio. Thanks so much.
Stoked to announce that Six Organs will be joining @stevevontill on the road in late August. I’ve been a fan of Steve’s music for a long time now, both with Neurosis, his work under his own name, and under the name of Harvestman (in fact, there’s a Six Organs song that has an oblique reference to Steve’s work. In my 2011 song, Light of the Light, I sing, “Bridges…without a cross” which was me phonetically riffin’ on Steve singing the song, Brigit’s Cross). His recent work has been some of my favorite (like if Comus and Popol Vuh started trading mix tapes of King Tubby and Eno). We met in 2009 when Steve invited me to play the Roadburn festival that Neurosis was curating. Since then we’ve stayed in touch, trading records and he’s turned me on to some sick bands (like Deafkids). This tour has long been in the works and was actually booked once before, for May of 2020, but Covid hit and everything shut down before we could even announce it. I’m honored that Steve asked if I’d like to head out with him. Looking forward to seeing some of you out there. I’ll be playing some cities I’ve been to with other bands but never with Six Organs (like Salt Lake City). Links to shows and tickets in my bio. Tour flyer design by Shelby Allison

This coming August, I will be visiting some western states to continue sharing the songs from my Alone in a World of Wounds album. Joining me onstage will be Dave French on synths, bass, and percussion, and Brent Arnold on cello. We will be supported by the ever inspiring Six Organs of Admittance (aka Ben Chasny) in all cities except Spokane and Denver. Spokane, Pioneertown and Cottonwood are in for an additional special set by our very own Dave French’s project Semantron. Please join us, we look forward to seeing you out there.

Tomorrow I’ll release a cassette and digital DL on @islandhouserecs bandcamp. This is a benefit release for music writer Jennifer Kelly @dustedforreal who had a cancer diagnosis last December and is currently doing chemo so all profit for this goes to her. It’s called Six Organs of Admittance featuring the Six Organs Olive Choir. The Olive Choir is Elisa Ambrogio @invisiblemotor , Leah Toth @thescrvnr , Meg Baird @meglingbaird , Damon Krukowski @dada_drummer , and Naomi Yang @naomivision , who all help sing on Side A, which is a 14 min version of Faust’s Jennifer. Side B has three new Six Organs “songs”. Art is by Michael Turner (Mazozma). This will not be on streaming services but you can listen on Bandcamp. Link will go live tomorrow.
Hello. Out today is a single that I co-wrote with Pierre-Yves Martel, the man who makes the music for the Weird Studies podcast, from the upcoming Weird Studies Vol 3 record. This is the 3rd Volume in a series that isn’t necessarily music from the podcast but sort of lined up theme wise. It’s a great record with other guests as well (Sarah Davachi, et al.) Weird studies is one of favorite podcast to listen to (even if my idea of the “imaginal” is far different than theirs, mine being grounded in Henry Corbin’s original concept of a middle-place). Pierre-Yves and I started corresponding a couple years ago, trading records and such. I was pleasantly surprised to hear all his music outside of the podcast, including some jams that had an almost No-Neck/Salvatore vibe. He’s got a ton of music worth checking out. This release will be on LP and can be pre-ordered from his Bandcamp. Comes out May 22nd. Honored to be a part of it.
A couple minutes of the Peach Tree Blossom improv video from this morning. Since I don’t really have a YouTube channel I made the whole video available for everyone to watch on the Six Organs Patreon, no membership required (link in bio). Blossoms have been looking so nice I did my morning guitar work and coffee underneath them today. Pretty cool cameo by a local crow towards the end of this.
New Six Organs Hexadic shirt printed for Tuesday’s show at @union_pool with @bogstandard2 in NY. Design is from the composition notebook for 1st and 2nd Hexadic records, drawn on July 11th, 2014. Hand screened Solar Gold on Black shirt. Any shirts left from show will go up on Patreon then I might just print some more eventually, kind of like the way it came out.
ATTN: tomorrow’s show has been postponed until Tuesday March 10th. I was supposed to be in the air on a plane at this moment on my way to NY to play at @union_pool tomorrow with @bogstandard2 but this damn storm cancelled my flight. Luckily Union Pool was cool enough to just move the show exactly two weeks later. So hopefully I’ll still be seeing you soon ( this will also greatly decrease the chance of Mark accidentally dropping his new beautiful Carr guitar amp in a two foot snowbank and then having to borrow an inferior Marshall or something. The horror). Hopefully still see you folks there. Sorry for the trouble and thanks for understanding and thanks again to Union Pool for keeping it going. Stay warm!
New video up on the Six Organs Patreon about exploring G Harmonic Minor in Six Organs Standard (aka SOS) tuning by going over some of the guitar moves that were in the last improv I recorded and posted to the Patreon. Been really enjoying exploring harmonic minor in this tuning.
