Joel McGillis has been charged with kidnapping a person under 16 years of age after allegedly trying to abduct a 7-year-old girl from the playground at Chilliwack Central Elementary School Wednesday morning 😳👀
McGillis was reportedly wearing a purple “bunny-like” mask and allegedly attempted to remove the child from school property before a concerned citizen stepped in and brought the child safely back to the school.
Shortly after, RCMP said a man matching the suspect’s description was found nearby and taken into custody.
Mounties say McGillis and the child are not known to each other and believe this is an isolated incident.
Chilliwack RCMP released a stock image of the “bunny-like” mask urging anyone who saw an individual wearing this to come forward, as they may have information that could help with the investigation.
