May 15th, I will accomplish something that not too long ago, I never even saw for myself. I’ll be walking across the stage at Delaware State University with not one, but TWO degrees in Mass Communications and Public Health. And honestly… this journey was never easy.
There were moments I felt lost, behind, and completely out of place. From having to switch schools, transferring to DSU and basically starting over, to changing my major from Mass Comm to Public Health and back again… I spent so much time trying to figure out who I truly was and where I belonged. Truth is, I never even wanted to go to school in the first place. But somehow, this university saved my life in ways I never expected.
So many people only knew me from social media. They knew my presence, but not me. They saw the highlights, but not the pressure I carried trying to live up to an image that felt too small for who I really was. What they didn’t see was where I came from.
But DSU gave me more than an education. It helped me grow. It gave me purpose. It showed me strength I didn’t know I had. It introduced me to people, experiences, opportunities, and versions of myself I never dreamed possible.
To everyone who supported me, believed in me, prayed for me, and loved me through every version of myself… thank you. And to myself — thank you for not giving up, even when everything in you wanted to.
I could have been a product of so many bad decisions but i am forever blessed and protected. This chapter stretched me, humbled me, and built me into who I am today. Now it’s time to step into everything I’ve worked for.
