Oh, it's Friday again? Well here's some "Trouble in Mind" behind the scenes material for ya. The artwork, style and character designs went through a lot of changes during five (!) years of development. The first idea for Trouble in Mind started all the way back in 2015. And for the longest time the characters didn't have any clothes on. (My logic at the time: they have scales so they don't need clothes).
The sketch I made in 2019 was a heartbreaking low point in the production, we couldn't secure the funding needed for production and it seemed like I had to give up on the project. Luckily the Dutch Film Fund made extra funding available, which changed everything. I took another hard look at the design and changed it completely. Turning it into the style the film ended up being: a lineless colorful and a hybrid animation style (hand drawn in combination with 2D cut out). Annnd...I gave the characters clothes too! They look super naked in the old artwork. 😂
