A few weeks ago, @meridiancreditunion told our story, and we want to keep that story going.
Meet Patti and Chris, two of our volunteers who make 541 what it is. Their words show what this place is really about, better than we ever could.
This community runs on radical hospitality. And radical hospitality runs on people like you. If their stories moved you, consider becoming a monthly donor. Even a small recurring gift helps keep the coffee on, the doors open, and a seat at the table for every neighbour who needs one.
Become a monthly donor through the link in our bio.
@541barton is a pay-it-forward café in Hamilton rooted in dignity, belonging, and care for one another. By welcoming everyone and meeting people where they are, they’re creating space for connection, one meal at a time.
We are proud to spotlight a Meridian Member making a meaningful impact locally.
Visit the link in our bio to read their story.
We've gotten a lot more followers since the last time we did this, so we thought it was about time we re-introduced ourselves! If you're new here, welcome to 541 👋
We’re a nonprofit cafe in Hamilton where food and community come together. Through our pay-it-forward button program, neighbours support neighbours in simple but meaningful ways.
Whether you’re here for breakfast, coffee, or a moment of connection, every person who walks through our doors helps make this place what it is. Thank you for being a part of this community ❤

Are you passionate about 541's mission, and our values of hospitality, belonging, community and advocacy? The Board of Directors at 541 is seeking new members, with a particular interest in candidates with experience and skills in governance, finance, and/or risk management. They are also seeking folks to join the Board Committee. Relevant lived experiences and connections to networks that can support 541 are also considered assets.

Our window got smashed today. It’s not the news we wanted to share 😞
Barton Street has been home for a long time, and moments like this one sting. But this community has always shown up for us, and we’re not about to let a broken window change that. We’ll be open tomorrow as usual and we’d love to see some familiar faces.
If you’d like to help us cover the repair, donations are always welcome ❤️ donate through the link in our bio. And if you can share this post, we’d really appreciate it.
We're looking for volunteer dishwashers and kitchen prep folks to help us keep the table set for our neighbours!
If you love rolling up your sleeves and giving back in your own backyard, we'd love to hear from you. Reach out to our Volunteer Coordinator Robin at [email protected] to get involved.
Our dear friend Michael Jankauskas has passed away. I’m really sorry if you are hearing this news on social media rather than in person.
Michael has been part of The Meeting Place and 541 communities for many years. He is known for his gentle spirit and kind smile.
On Sunday May 24th at 4pm, The Meeting Place church and 541 Eatery & Exchange will host a celebration of life for Michael at 541 Barton St. E.

It's Mental Health Week! The theme this year is "Come Together - Stronger Connections, Better Mental Health," which focuses on reducing isolation, sparking connections, and promoting mental well-being across Canada.
Loneliness is something we see in our neighbourhood every day. It isn't just a feeling; it's a public health issue that affects millions of Canadians, and some of our most vulnerable neighbours are most impacted. Swipe to learn who's most affected and why connection matters.
At 541, we believe everyone deserves a place to belong.

A meal at 541 is more than food. It’s connection, dignity, and care.
With costs around $15 per meal, imagine the impact one car donation could make.
Through our friends at Homeless Cars, your old vehicle can help keep meals on the table for our community. ❤️

Next up for our staff intros is Ale, our wonderful Community Host. It was her birthday last week, so go wish her a belated happy birthday in the comments!
Ale came to 541 late last year after she saw that 541 was hiring for a Community Host. Her favourite thing about this place is the community!
A fun fact about Ale is that she believes she's the only Mexican who doesn't eat spicy food. Come on into the cafe and say hi to Ale the next time you see her ☺️
It’s National Volunteer Week, and we want to shout out just a handful of our incredible volunteers! Go give some love to them in the comments below👇
541 wouldn’t be the place it is today without our volunteers. They’re helping out in the dining area, serving your food, or quietly helping out in the kitchen.
But more than that, they’re helping to create the kind of space that feels welcoming the moment you walk in. The kind of space where people feel seen, known, and cared for.
To everyone who’s volunteered with us, whether you’re here right now or were part of 541 years ago, thank you. You helped build this place.
