This is a nice thing for us at 5000:
A new Artist with their first headline tour, and all the attendant excitements and pressures to do what we can to ensure they have positive experiences in the music industries, acknowledging we have a duty of care for their wellbeing.
It’s great to work with you, @evechristinaa !
🥾✨
Our friend @lowswimmer has made a film about touring, screening soon around the UK at @everymancinema
I toured on and off for 30 years: my first was in the US in 1992 with @utahsaints and The Shamen. My last was in the US in 2022, with Ed and the @novoamor band and crew.
I quit around the same time as Ed, and though for different reasons, and though our jobs were very different, his film World Over is a hugely resonant work for me, as well as being visually and aurally stunning.
We don’t talk much about how awful touring can be. How exhausting, crushing, how monumentally boring it can be for some, and how exhilarating, enriching and joyous it can be for those same people only a day later. We continue to fail to portray it accurately in culture, and Ed’s film is a critical intervention in that regard.
I’m grateful to him for being so honest about his experience, and for presenting it in a way that even those with no knowledge of or interest in touring will surely find compelling.
I’ll be his guest on stage in Edinburgh. It would be great to see you there!
- Andy

Created by @novoamor in partnership with @beaconscymru , The Birthplace Fund offers grants to ten successful applicants of up to £2,500 each, to support original music-makers across Wales.
Whether you’re an artist, band, or music producer, this fund is here to give you the time, space, and resources to focus on what matters most: your music.
“Music gave me a way to express myself, to connect with people, and to build a life that felt true to who I am. It’s brought me joy, purpose, and community – and I want others to have the same chance. I created The Birthplace Fund because I know how it feels to be told you don’t have potential. I want to help change that for others, to create more space for creativity, opportunity, and belief, right here in Wales.”
