During a recent cleanup off the coast of Pabuwahan Beach, Bali, we found a fully grown olive ridley sea turtle trapped inside a mattress and struggling to survive.
The turtle was almost on the verge of suffocation so our cleanup team immediately jumped into action, fetched it out of the mattress, and carefully removed the plastic entangled around its head. The turtle seemed too exhausted to survive on its own, with numb flippers and half-closed eyes. The crew helped it recover by letting it rest in the boat for half an hour.
Thanks to the quick action of Nur Wahyudi (the crew member who saw the turtle) we were able to rescue, rehabilitate, and release it back into a cleaner environment. The olive ridley sea turtle was humorously named Alexa, after 4ocean founder @alexjschulze .
Six turtle species are endangered, facing severe threats from plastic pollution and poaching daily. The threat of entanglement to turtles is underestimated, as they often suffer internal injuries and starvation from ingesting plastics.
It is more important than ever to help support us in solving the ocean plastic crisis. Comment “🐢” to help us clean the ocean!

OUR STORY: We’re on a mission to end the ocean plastic crisis.
➡️ Alex Schulze and Andrew Cooper were inspired to create 4ocean after taking a surf trip to Bali, Indonesia, in 2015. While they had grown up in Florida and made their living from the ocean, Bali is where they truly began to understand the severity of the ocean plastic crisis and its impact not just on marine life, but on the coastal communities that, like them, relied on the health of the ocean to survive.
➡️ After speaking with local fishermen whose livelihoods were negatively impacted by plastic pollution, Alex and Andrew decided to build a company that would hire boat captains and fishermen in communities heavily impacted by plastic pollution as full-time, professional cleanup crew members to recover plastic and other harmful debris from the ocean, rivers, and coastlines seven days a week.
➡️ Since the very beginning, our co-founders envisioned a business model where the materials 4ocean crews recovered from the ocean would be used to develop new and innovative products that raise awareness about the ocean plastic crisis, fund a global ocean cleanup operation, and empower individuals around the world to end their reliance on single-use plastic.
This Endangered Species Day, we're celebrating our partners @eschocolate and their commitment to removing 1 million pounds of ocean plastic and debris by 2028.
Every Clean Ocean Pledge helps remove plastic waste before it harms marine life. Small actions create cleaner shores, healthier ocean, and a future worth falling in love with again and again.
Ocean pollution starts long before the shoreline.
At Yosomulyo Riverboom, our team removed 260.4lbs of waste before it could reach the ocean.
Every cleanup upstream makes a difference downstream.

Sembulungan Bay should be clean and untouched.
But during our cleanup, we found everyday waste scattered along the shoreline and within the mangroves.
It’s time we take responsibility for what we leave behind.

We’ll take it. Every cleanup counts, even moral support.
