Foreign Family was birthed in Los Angeles, during the prime streetwear era of 2005. Looking back, we came up with some nutty designs during a nutty time of our lives. I love every good, bad, mediocre, exciting, amazing, broke, fun moment during the 6 years of business. So many bright ink colors 😆. I especially enjoyed the monthly parties we threw in our K-town alleyway. That was the ultimate spot! Thank you to all the FFamily supporters/members that made it happen, you know who you are! Here’s an assortment of moments, graphics, and memories over the years.

This year is my boy CB’s @heshdawgz_cb 20th anniversary for his store Heshdawgz.
20 years in Ura-Harujuku ! A place where the tenant turnover rate is extremely high due to the fast trends and record-high rents, my guy has weathered the storm by keeping his integrity & supplying only the realest skate brands.
I first met CB in SF when I was going to Academy of Art college in 1998. He used to work at a Japanese video store where I would rent videos. A quiet and humble CB, he was known to rip it on the skateboard. We would bump into each other from time to time at parties, and became good friends along the way. I’d help him out with translation for Japanese magazines. I’m not even the best translator, but I try 🤭. In 2005, he went back to Japan to open his shop Heshdawgz. He’d come back every year to the states to purchase brands for his shop, and while in LA, he would sleep on our couch. My wife Sherry calls CB our human pet.
Running a shop is hard, we’d talk about the challenges and sacrifices it takes to run a shop. Sometimes he would shake his head and be like “Ahh, I don’t know man, I can’t keep doing this”. Every business owner goes through this, but you also know that if you’re able to overcome those tough times, you end up stronger the next day. I’m proud of you big dawg, everything you and Katsu @kat__dawgz have accomplished. I’m honored to be able to design a t-shirt for your 20th anniversay. Keep on pushing for another 20!

Next stopped by to see my buddy @saynogo_ ‘s @my.ism event at the Love Hour Parking lot. It’s great to see the folks soaking up the sun alongside the next generation of creatives. The one thing we can all learn from the youth, is that ‘energy’ they bring to the table. It revives the cells that produce the imaginative power in the mind.
What a trip to be back on 6th & Western. Good to see that the kids have got it all figured out.

Graffiti, as an art form, carries a depth that transcends simple vandalism, embracing a complex intersection of expression, identity, and resistance. It speaks in a language that can be understood universally, bypassing political, racial, and cultural barriers. After 25 years, it still feels good to add some colors on the wall.
If organizations don’t give you a chance, go create your own. Be nice to your friends, help them when you can, and if you feel like an ice cream, go treat yourself. 🍨
