Reading Photographs
Our ongoing event series that invites us to slow down, look closer, and be inspired through the quiet intimacy of photobooks.
This session brings together two distinct yet resonant bodies of work, shaped by light, presence, and the poetics of the everyday. One traces expansive journeys across geographies, where fleeting human encounters and moments of warmth emerge through travel and light. The other lingers in stillness, observing solitary rhythms and quiet gestures within everyday spaces, where silence becomes its own form of narration.
Across these works, photography becomes a way of listening, between movement and pause, distance and proximity, presence and absence.

A Raya Installation in our greenhouse.
In Malay culture, Hari Raya Aidilfitri is a time of forgiveness and renewal.
A moment where people say maaf zahir dan batin,
to seek forgiveness for what is seen and unseen, and to begin again with sincerity.
In our greenhouse, this spirit continues through the installation.
Materials that once carried the joy of Chinese New Year were carefully reworked and woven again,
finding a new presence during the Ramadan season.
Raffia takes on different forms and meanings.
Some are bound into loops, like memories returning and repeating.
Some are shaped into forms resembling charred coconuts, holding traces of time.
Some stretch like nets, carrying and connecting.
Others are braided into lines, expressing relationships and unseen ties.
Small bamboo flowers are scattered within, like stars, softly present within restraint and stillness.
Between reuse and regeneration, the installation reflects the essence of Ramadan,
a time of restraint, reflection, and renewal.
A continuation of materials, reinterpreted through a different season.

Yo you ever think about purpose?
I’m reading a lot.
I’m trying to learn about who am I to my history.
So in one of these books,
there’s this dude who’s got like no skills,
no personality, nothing.
All he does is watches trains.
Watches them be trains.
