I want to say. That I forgive you.
Its taken a week for me to conceptualize this experience. In that time i have not been able to get sleep due to the massive headaches. My blurry vision was corrected after a visit to the ER.
But i will be alright.
I write this knowing other sisters & brothers have not been so lucky.
I have seen cops shoot at peaceful protestors & innocent bystanders.
I have seen children. Adults & elders hurt by the hands of the police.
Something normalized in communities of color since when Zoot Suiters were criminalized.
After this I have touched the frontlines.
More strategic & more traumatized.
I would like to see you hurt.
But i understand you are human. In a corrupt racist system set up to indoctrinate you to exercise the power you choose to abuse to maintain profit over bodies of color & justice.
I also understand that this was a power trip. Maybe you were trigger happy. Maybe you were trying to kill me.
But I blame the system for allowing you to hurt. To Kill. W/o consequences.
Today I stand.
As a Social Worker.
An advocate to the brown & black bodies not being able to speak. To breathe.
Saying. Its time to Dismantle hypermilitarized Police & the prison industrial complex.
In honor of all the innocent black & brown bodies that have been killed by systematic racism.
I left this day to peacefully protest for Black Lives which have been disproportionately victimized through this system.
My little brother asked me "Where are you going?"
I gave him a hug & a kiss & said.
"To go protest. So you don't have to."
& recognizing when I got back home.
That maybe I could not have returned.
Making the ancestors w/ me. The God in me. Calm with rage.
Then being sat down the following day by Veterans that I work with & told.
"These protest & protestors are more American than the work we have done overseas."

So today. Me & my people recognize that we are no longer pawns.
