The exhibition brings together a dynamic interplay of mediums and themes, showcasing vibrant visual arrangements, moments of luminous solitude, and gestural playfulness. Through their works, the artists explore belonging, relay histories, revisit maps of trauma and recovery, and confront the realities of embedded modern surveillance—seeking meaning on materials such as canvas, ceramics, silk screens, and buffalo hide. Each piece unveils a distinct world—a deeply personal lens where tradition, imagination, and emotion intersect, forging connections that transcend boundaries and cultures. As we bid farewell to 2024, we’re grateful for a remarkable year of art and community! Highlights include solo exhibitions by Özer Toraman and Anna Valdez, 𝘾𝙤𝙣𝙛𝙡𝙪𝙚𝙣𝙘𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙪𝙡𝙩𝙪𝙧𝙚, and 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐧𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐮𝐞 𝐀𝐭𝐭𝐚𝐜𝐡𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐨𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐯𝐞. We also hosted incredible events, such as NTU WKWSCI’s Spotlight Awards, Airwallex global launch with Lando Norris, the Hungarian Fashion Show with the Breast Cancer Foundation, and meaningful programs during Singapore Gallery Month. Lynn Lu’s durational performative piece, 𝘜𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘮, which engages with lived experiences of female ageing, was staged yesterday as part of “The Analogue Attachements of Modern Love”. As Lu points out, “Though there is much literature on menopause, very little of it has been written by women. When Virginia Woolf tried to bring menopause and menstruation into her greatest novel, 𝘔𝘳𝘴 𝘋𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘺, these references were edited out of later versions. Before 2000, there was hardly a female voice writing about our experiences of ageing, and of reaching the end of reproductive life.” In 𝘜𝘯𝘣𝘰𝘴𝘰𝘮, Lu inscribed onto the pages of a copy of 𝘔𝘳𝘴 𝘋𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘰𝘸𝘢𝘺, in milk, excerpts from female-authored novels on menopause such as Miranda July’s 𝘈𝘭𝘭 𝘍𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘴 and Germaine Greer’s 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘊𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘦, among others. She employed the domestic chore of ironing, typically perceived as women’s work, to reveal the otherwise invisible excerpts through heat. Born in 2002, Supassara Ho is the youngest artist in the group exhibition. Her works spotlight the processes associated with craft as a means to carve time out despite the fast paced environments; while also questioning the idea of “craft” in the context of traditional craft and fine arts 🪡 8: Hand Writing Series deconstructs the concept of craft by exploring crochet pattern writing as a form of visualization. Joanne Lim is a Singapore-based visual artist, interested in translating and visualising data that she collects in long-term projects involving community collaboration and using various mediums to address current social issues. True Consent explores privacy and consent. It brings together the privacy policies from various apps on Lim’s phone, turning them into eleven physical books. By transforming these digital documents into something tangible, the artwork highlights how difficult it is to truly give consent online. Elia Nurvista explores a wide range of art mediums with an interdisciplinary approach with the politics of food. Through food, she scrutinizes power, social, and economic inequalities. The Route is a series of four batik panels first exhibited at the WereldMuseum in Amsterdam, retelling the history of the oil palm’s migration and displacement, while also diving into how Dutch textile companies mass-produced Javanese batik in the 19th century. Celline Mercado is a Filipino visual artist of Japanese descent, whose work explores themes of migration, labor, and colonial histories. Dismantled Bed I, Iteration II explores how colonialism shapes diasporic identity. It‘s the only one of four wrapped bed frames made in the Philippines, symbolizing what gets left behind when moving abroad. By wrapping found furniture in fiber threads, she expresses the instability of being in-between, packing for transit, and the struggle to fit into Western society.
