SUNDAY VIBES WITH B12 Electro-Soma by B12 (released in 1993 on Warp Records) is widely considered a cornerstone of early Intelligent Dance Music (IDM) and ambient techno. It is a foundational release that helped define the UK “listening techno” scene alongside artists like Aphex Twin and Autechre. Design: Designers Republic / Percival #b12 #electrosoma #warprecords

GRAFFITI: FROM LOW LIFE TO HIGH ART Vintage newspaper and magazine clippings from the 80s and 90s feat. Chris “Freedom” Pape, the New York–based graffiti artist best known for his iconic work in the legendary Freedom Tunnel on Manhattan’s Upper West Side. Active during the 1980s and 1990s, Freedom became one of the most recognized writers to paint the abandoned Amtrak tunnel, transforming its dark, underground walls into a vibrant, sprawling gallery of aerosol art. RECORDCOVERS BY ARTISTS OR DESIGNED BY ARTISTS The LP sleeve is arguably the most widely distributed square-format art object of the 20th and 21th century. The history of record covers by artists (fine artists using the sleeve as medium) and designed by artists (where visual artists shaped popular music imagery) runs parallel to both modern art and the music industry. It’s not just graphic design history — it’s about the LP as an exhibition space. Here are my most favorite books about this subject. Super fascinating to me ⚡️ Guy Schraenen Vinyl: Records and Covers by Artists (2005) Covers a long historical span (starting with 1920s avant-gardes through contemporary experiments) and includes records plus other published material related to sound (often beyond standard LPs). Jan van Toorn / SCHUNK Visual Vinyl (2017) A book built from the archive/collection of Dutch designer Jan van Toorn, positioned as a comprehensive overview of “artist’s covers”—album covers where fine artists meaningfully authored or shaped the sleeve as a work. D.B. Burkeman Art Sleeves: Album Covers by Artists (2021) A tightly curated, contemporary-leaning selection from the last ~40 years, framed like a “playlist” of iconic covers designed by visual artists and graphic designers—with an emphasis on cultural impact and notable collaborations. Giorgio Maffei Records by Artists (2007) This is one of the most important reference books on vinyl as an artistic medium. Rather than focusing on commercial album design, it documents records conceived as artworks—where sound, object, and sleeve form a unified conceptual piece. #sleevedesign #recordsleevedesign #recordsleevedesignbyartists

WATERGATE X - 10 YEARS ANNIVERSARY BOX. I'm a sucker for club culture history. Here's the Watergate X - 10 Years Anniversary Box. It's a premium, limited-edition collector’s set released in November 2012 by Watergate Records to celebrate the first decade of the iconic Berlin club. The set is housed in a high-quality, linen-bound box with logo embossing and includes: Vinyl: 3 x 12” records (often in white or colored vinyl) featuring 12 exclusive tracks. CDs: 2 x CDs containing 29 unmixed, exclusive tracks. DVD: A 42-minute documentary film directed by Stathis Klotsikas, titled Watergate X – The Movie, which covers the club’s history and includes interviews with key figures. Photography Book: A massive 270-page book featuring photos that document the club’s atmosphere and journey. Extras: An A1 poster and two guestlist vouchers granting free entry to the club. Watergate was a landmark of Berlin’s electronic music scene for 22 years, operating from its opening on October 26, 2002, until its permanent closure on December 31, 2024. The management decided not to renew the lease at the end of 2024 due to immense financial pressure from rising rents, inflation, and the energy crisis. Located in the Kreuzberg district at the foot of the Oberbaum Bridge, it was internationally renowned for its floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the River Spree and its pioneering LED ceiling. I went through my Watergate flyer collection and found some that feature in the book incl. the 10 years anniversary flyer. #watergateberlin #watergate10years #berlinclub

RAF NO EVIDENCE / KEIN BEWEIS By Arwed Messmer In “RAF – No Evidence / Kein Beweis”, “image archaeologist” Arwed Messmer re-examines the history of the Red Army Faction (RAF) through thousands of previously unpublished police archive photographs. The project covers the decade from 1967 to 1977, tracing the path from early student protests (including the shooting of Benno Ohnesorg) to the violent “German Autumn” and the suicides of key RAF members in Stammheim Prison. Messmer spent years in state archives unearthing “utilitarian” images—mug shots, surveillance photos, and crime scene documentation—that have lost their original function as legal evidence but now offer new historical insights. Messmer challenges how we view conflict by questioning the ethics of the image: which photos should be shown, how they should be displayed, and what they reveal about the state’s perspective versus the reality of the events. His work was recognized for its historical depth and was shortlisted for the prestigious Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation Prize in 2019. The exhibition at the Folgwang Museum confronted viewers with the raw reality of the Red Army Faction by enlarging bureaucratic police archive photos, transforming them into overwhelming, large-scale images. By juxtaposing these cold, evidentiary photos against familiar, romanticized media portrayals, Messmer strips away the “glamor” to focus on the stark, factual documentation of surveillance and violence. Special thanx go out to Lars and Greg 🙏 #rotearmeefraktion

WALTER VAN BEIRENDONCK - WELCOME LITTLE STRANGER Had another great day with my daughter Ava at Walter Van Beirendonck’s Playground. With Welcome Little Stranger Walter Van Beirendonck, internationally renowned fashion designer and member of the legendary Antwerp Six (Dirk Bikkembergs, Ann Demeulemeester, Walter Van Beirendonck, Dries Van Noten, Dirk Van Saene and Marina Yee) takes a step outside the realm of fashion and creates an artistic environment that invites children to explore, move around, and -above all - play. FROM FASHION TO PLAYGROUND Van Beirendonck is known for his distinctive visual language, colorful shapes, and socially engaged designs. His work often deals with identity, diversity, and fantasy, themes that also recur in Welcome Little Stranger. Van Beirendonck’s design is based on the theme of extraterrestrial life and invites visitors to meet a mysterious ‘little stranger’. “I wanted to design an environment that stimulates children to use their imagination, without screens or digital distractions. Welcome Little Stranger is about wonder, about the joy of discovery and playing together, without boundaries,” says Walter Van Beirendonck. The project is unique because it is the first time that Van Beirendonck has translated his vision into an interactive play area. In doing so, he is not only exploring the boundaries of his own discipline, but also those of what a play area can be: a place that is more than just a playground, where art and play challenge each other. #waltervanbeirendonck #cmine #playground #antwerpsix

ALPHABET CITY Today my daughter Ava and I visited C-mine in Genk Belgium to see the amazing exhibition Alphabet City by Jo de Baerdemaeker, Erik Desombere, Jo Klaps, Geertrui Storms and Sam van Vaerenbergh about typography. We use text in whatsapp messages, e-mails, newspapers and hopefully sometimes in writing letters. But we rarely reflect on the origins and the infinite variety of letters we use. In ALPHABET CITY, five designers work with letters they find in Genk’s public spaces, creating new alphabets inspired by what buildings, monuments, old machines, and printed materials have given them. Discover how this creates a surprising new urban landscape during an exhibition in the Compressor Hall. Untill March 15th 2026. #cminegenk #alphabetcity #cmine #typography

BERGHAIN / PANORAMA BAR Here’s a selection of Berghain flyers from my collection. Berghain’s monthly flyers are renowned for their curated, often provocative aesthetic, moving far beyond standard event promotion. Each month, the club commissions a different artist to design the flyer, resulting in a wildly diverse Program Archive. Many designs also carry deeper meanings. Berghain and its upstairs counterpart, Panorama Bar, are more than just a legendary techno destination; they are a central pillar of Berlin’s visual and cultural identity. Beyond the music, their artistic legacy is cemented by their distinctive monthly flyers, which have become high-value collector’s items. Located in a former power plant, the club’s interior is dominated by raw concrete and steel. It is divided into three main areas: the main floor (Berghain) for heavy techno, Panorama Bar for house, and Säule for experimental sounds. The club strictly forbids photography to preserve a sense of sacred anonymity and total immersion. The building has deep ties to the international art scene, hosting major exhibitions like Studio Berlin during the pandemic and housing permanent installations by artists like Sven Marquardt and Piotr Nathan. #berghain #panorambar

BLADE, KING OF KINGS Steven Ogburn (born 1957), better known as BLADE, is an iconic New York graffiti writer widely recognized as the “King of Graffiti”. Originally from the Bronx, he became one of the most prolific figures in street art history, notably painting over 5,000 subway trains between 1972 and 1984. He was the founder of the legendary The Crazy 5 Crew (TC5) which dominated the New York subway lines during the 1970s. His influential “whole cars” and conceptual pieces, such as the “Walking Letters” train, were famously captured by photographers Martha Cooper and Henry Chalfant for the seminal book Subway Art. While BLADE was the figurehead, the crew included other legends like COMET, PHASE 2, and later SEEN and DOZE. When I met Steven (humble and lovely guy) at his exhibtion in Amsterdam, approx 15 years ago, he was selling some signed books with customized artwork. This was a once in a life opportunity I could not resist, so I robbed my bank account and bought one. #bladekingofgraffiti #stevenogburn #newyorksubwaygraffiti #graffitilegend

THE WILD STYLE VAULT HITS 12.000+ FOLLOWERS⚡️ In 2015 my dear friend Dayle Dickson aka The Shift (Australia) and myself Pat Vogt aka 360illuminati (The Netherlands) started The Wild Style vault on Facebook. At that moment is time there wasn’t a website dedicated to the history of the Wild Style movie. Still amazed by the fact we hit the 12.000+ followers mark as we don’t promote the vault. It’s pure organic. Through our vault we share our love and respect for Charlie Ahearn, The Wild Style movie and everyone involved. The collection is a mix of original vintage books, tapes, photo’s, records, posters, magazines etc. and articles about the history of the Wild Style movie by Charlie Ahearn. The vault has also become an archive and inspiration for fellow collectors. A big thank you to all our friends that helped us find these gems and to all our followers 🙏
