Ragged Affection by Toni Zhao In this presentation, Toni continues her exploration of everyday objects, laborious traces, and marginal perspectives, presenting textile, sculptural, and installation works made from diverse soft materials and handcraft techniques. She employs plastic strings, cut towels, flour clay, and ceramics, incorporating embroidery, tufting, and wood carving—weaving new connections between microscopic vision, bodily perception, and spatial narrative. Her pieces resemble both makeshift shelters and folded private maps. Through repetitive handwork, placements of objects learnt from street-smart observations, she questions the boundaries between “use” and “trace”, exploring the hidden links between everyday objects and emotion, memory, repair. The works engage with the exhibition space, creating narratives that accommodate marginal gazes—an ant, a child, a used dishcloth—where ragged things grow into a tender kind of love. Exhibition Duration: March 20 - April 18, 2026 Open Hours: Wed to Sun, 11:00 - 18:00 Location: -1F, NO.4 ZhaoHua Rd. 518, Shanghai @toekneeboob @33ml.offspace #tonitongyuzhao #tonizhao #33mloffspace #raggedaffection #砎烂爱

MISSPELLING BY FANG YANG In this series of wall-based installations, Fang Yang works with pliable stone-dust clay coupled tightly to chemically treated galvanized-steel frames. Transfer prints—ranging from club dance floors to CG fragments and film stills—reveal an everyday, indirect violence embedded in media interfaces, symbols, and pixelated vision. The clay is arranged in grids, allowing the artist to break down social codes into modular parts that can be recomposed like a language full of «errors». CG animation is used not for fantasy but to digitally reconstruct memory, rendering personal recollection inseparable from mediated experience. Works like The Vermin from the Gutter Keep Crawling onto Me dissect a chaotic inner world through subjective manipulation of CG scenes, while the moving-image «Flowing Quintet» channels game-level architectures to expose the agitation and hollowness underpinning digital culture. In Fangyang’s wall-based assemblages, flash-lit snapshots from club floors, CG sequences, and film stills are transferred onto stone-powder clay to force into view the everyday, indirect violence that circulates through networks and interface languages. The grid functions as his method: it parses elusive rules into pixel-scale units and—via commands such as “You Died” and “You mustn’t run away”—channels spectatorship into the system. CG here does not fabricate fantasy; it re-computes memory. The magenta sky after a steelworks accident, the afterimage of his father’s truck, and specters in the furnace are re-developed within a grammar shaped by cult cinema and tokusatsu. In parallel, the Flow Quintet structures the moving image through game-like levels and the overload of feeds, laying bare the so-called online carnival as a condition of sustained fatigue and unease. @fangyang_yuwan #33mloffspace

On September 12th, 33ml offspace presents Fang Yang’s solo exhibition ”Spelling Mistake“, featuring nine wall-based installations and six video works. In his installations, pliable clay meets rigid, chemically-treated steel frames. Transferred images on the clay—club snapshots, CGI clips, film stills—point to a subtle, everyday violence hidden within digital networks, media interfaces, and pixelated gazes. Arranged in grids, the clay pieces become a metaphor. The artist edits this grid, breaking down complex social rules into measurable ”pixels“ and transforming intangible order into reusable parts—like spelling out a statement full of intentional ”errors“. In works like ”You Died“ and ”You mustn‘t run away“, text mimics game commands or system judgments. Through the screen, viewers confront how they are silently organized by these invisible rules.
