@30m3___ has a two-week break now between the recent collab with Lotte van Gelder and the one with Lucia Luptákova coming up. In this period I present the suitable 'break work' Color Bar (Serbia, 2007) in the window. The last time it was exhibited, was at Limburg Biennale 2024 at @marres_maastricht . Meeting @nisala.info on the late night bus and taking a seat - now their magic bass incantations will fill the site and shake loose inner bounds of you are willing to- and @yipinprogress has been sending calls through the digital that will materialize vocalize in the present.. Elke eerste maandag van de maand om 12 uur gaat het alarm af. Precies op dat moment opent er een expositie in het atelier op Borneostraat 90 in Amsterdam met een unieke performance van 1 minuut en 26 seconden. Alarm is een duo-expositie in het atelier van Severine Amsing. Op 6 april met Lotte van Gelder. De expositie duurt tot 14 uur. Het geluid van de sirene dringt overal doorheen, wat ook de bedoeling is: we moeten reageren, in beweging komen, tegelijkertijd niet in paniek raken, op een holletje naar huis gaan, deuren en ramen sluiten. Lotte is kunstenaar en dichter, ze maakt en doet performances, vaak buiten wanneer de plek of situatie haar uitnodigt. De sirene intrigeert haar. Ze zegt dat geluid (muziek, kabaal, een roep) onderhandelen is. Als ik vraag waarom, zegt ze dat geluid doordringend is qua vorm, dat het ruimte maakt, botst met ruimte en weer doorgaat. Ze zegt dat het van ons een reactie afdwingt: loop je weg, blijf je luisteren of laat je van je horen? Wat doe je en hoe werkt de ruimte hieraan mee? Is dit het moment om andere ruimte te maken? Dit Alarm is een prelude, Alarm # mei is een vervolg, eveneens met Lotte. Beide keren zal er geen sirene te horen zijn. Toch vormt dit geluid, deze roep, de aanleiding. Het brengt haar maandelijks terug naar de wolven in Artis. Jaren geleden alweer filmde ze hoe de roedel even voor twaalven lekker in de zon lag te slapen. Het alarm daarentegen ontlokt een vorm van ‘vrij’ wolvengedrag dat botst met hun gekooidheid. Lotte wil iets doen met mijn geweven rokken waarbij ik met een staalborstel de zachte wollige binnenkant naar de harde katoenen buitenkant heb getrokken. Voor mij zijn de rokken als bewegende landschappen; zij herinnert zich de wolven. Lotte verbindt mijn atelier met de exporuimte 30m3 van Su Tomesen iets verderop. In 30m3 (spreek uit: dertig meter drie) is ze deze maanden artist in residence. Op 25 april zal daar een openingsexpo zijn, gevolgd door een performance op 4 mei. Die dag is het Dodenherdenking én Alarm # mei. Ze laat op 4 mei de performance bij mijn atelier om twaalf uur beginnen en eindigt deze in 30m3. If you don’t call for me, I will just be sleeping Two screens connect attentions between @severineamsing and @30m3___ where the wolves are sleeping still - you can find them there day and night through the coming weeks - On Monday April 6 Severine will perform her monthly action Alarm with a performance and exhibition that weaves her landscape skirts with the presence of the wolves - between 12 and 2 pm Borneostraat 90d Amsterdam - this moment is also the prelude to several stages of Soft Monument Witte Ruis that I develop at the residency 30m3__ of @sutomesen Relational story 1. In August 2014 @mamelgares and me went to meet the three arctic wolves that lived enclosed in the zoo. And as the sirens of first Monday of the month were going off, we listened, recorded and contemplated the ready made quality of this performance of howling and the cruelty of this man-made setting - these contemplations now begin to land in concrete form. I trace some memory lines in Amsterdam Oost during my residency @30m3___ As a child I would follow my mothers footsteps here, midwife with a practice in the area - as she was running errands and visiting pregnant folk - through the squatted post industrial buildings in the Docklands, the brick houses of Czaar Peter buurt, by the market and Javastraat, I would be bored and daydream while waiting for her in the car during check-ins with new borns - weaving frayed dreams that still speak to me during this time of developing a new soft monument Witte Ruis and give my movements in the area a sense of intimate knowing. Similar intimacies and frayed landscapes are found in the weaving of @severineamsing who has her storefront just 7 minutes walking from here and whose magical skirts will feature in the performance of May 4.
