Those of you who knew my late Father would not have thought of him as a practical joker. In the early 1940s the waters around Trinidad (including the Gulf of Paria shown in this photo) were a happy hunting ground for the Kriegsmarine. One night a U boat torpedoed a ship in the harbour and my Grandfather, who had civil defense responsibilities, donned his tin hat and headed to the docks. My late Father thought it would be hysterically funny to hang a flag with a swastika at the family residence and my late Uncle Michael (4 years younger than my Dad) was sent onto the roof with the flag. Grandfather, who never had much of a sense of humour, was apoplectic and a check of the 'sleeping' boys (including my late Uncle Peter) revealed paint dust on the soles of Uncle Mike's feet. Needless to say this led to Uncle Mike receiving a royal cutarse from his irate Father (who might have still been wearing his tin hat).
Added another candle! Had a busy, fun filled weekend with family, friends AND had my first onset birthday! BIG thank you to everyone who reached out with good wishes! Oh and I ate Italian food and cake for three days!
I took these photos thinking of my grandfather's cousin, Gerald Kenny, who was a Lancaster tail gunner and he died after his battle-damaged aircraft crashed in the Netherlands.
Although it might not be apparent from the photo, the #GulfOfParia is one of rhe finest natural harbors in rhe world. Those of you who knew my late father wouldn't have thought that he was much of a practical joker and I'm going to take you back to the early 1940s when a U-boat torpedoed a ship in the harbor. My grandfather, who was on civil defense duties, donned his tin hat and raced to the waterfront to see what could be done. My father, who would have been 11 or 12 at time thought that it would be hysterically funny to hang a flag with a swastika while my grandfather (who was never renowned for his sense of humor) was dealing with the Kriegsmarine's finest. My father's youngest brother Michael was sent onto the roof to hang the flag (the providence of which remains obscure to this day). By all accounts, Grandfather was incandescent with rage (as we would say in Trinidad, he was beatin' up) and he performed an inspection of the feet of my father and his brothers Peter and Michael (who had all wisely taken to their beds). It seems that the paint on the roof was flaking and poor Mike was caught with flakes of roofpaint on the soles of his feet (and received a royal cutarse).
Things be getting spicy with the production of @danielthx1138 ’s next film 🎥🌶
I’m grateful to have the opportunity to exercise the creative muscles with this crew once again... even if it means waking up at 4am on a Sunday 🤣
