R16 (260AC) was out for a spin yesterday to celebrate Land Rovers 78th Birthday. It’s a great day to celebrate the story and legacy of Land Rover but also the astounding one of the pre production 1948 models starting with R01, HUE166 that went from concept to low volume production in just over 6 months. Of the 48 pre production vehicles manufactured just under half are still known to exist. R16 and R01 were last together at Packaging for the 75th anniversary. It would be well worth an another pre production get together some time soon! #landrover #carswithoutlimits #classiccars #carsofinstagram #worldlandroverday
Well done to all involved however big or small, in getting Pollyanna back on tour driving from New Jersey to Texas to join the 10th Anniversary of the Barbara Toy Tribute run at SCARR hosted by Texas Rovers this weekend in Gilmer Texas. The route taken was part of Barbara and Pollyanna’s circumnavigation of the globe back in 1957. The Barbara Toy tribute run is not only to celebrate the incredible achievements of the Australian adventurer and her 1950 model Land Rover Pollyanna back in the 1950’s but also allows women to build off road experience, knowledge and confidence behind the wheel. Have a great weekend everyone! #landrover #landroverseries #classiccar #roadtrip #carsofinstagram #carofthedaý
To follow on from yesterday’s post celebrating the 10th Birthday of the Last Solihull built Defender. The vehicle moved straight from the production line and drove instantly into a celebration event with a fantastic number of stunning Land Rovers driving around the Solihull factory that was lead by the first pre production prototype Land Rover R01, HUE166 from the @britishmotormuseum Enjoy the images driven by Roger Crathorne. I was fortunate enough to play a part driving a production 1948 model. I handed over the responsibility of driving my 1948 pre production R16 (260AC) in the parade to @myprimergrey90 #landrover #landroverdefender #landroverseries #carswithoutlimits #classiccars
Ok folks. A busy day at the JLR Classic office, but with the assistance of the talented Mr Billing, I grasped a quick 15 minute late moment to photograph the ‘Last off Line’ Solihull built L316 Land Rover Defender on its 10th Birthday. I’ve mixed in a few photos from exactly 10 years ago as she came off the production line. I had the privilege of watching this vehicle come down the production line and have some great memories of working with so many people at the Solihull factory on the Defender line equally as I do today with the original Defender today at Land Rover Classic. #landroverdefender #landroverdefender90 #landroverphotos
The week 10 years ago R16 and I were stars of a film for the weekly UK BBC news. The brief was simple. R16 and I just had to show how well a very early Land Rover performed off road for their story covering the final week of Land Rover Defender production at Solihull. It was a fun morning out on a damp and muddy Solihull Land Track making R16 do her stuff taking on some of the incredible obstacles put in place for the 1983 lunch of the Land Rover 110. Yes, ‘The Steps’ were very jarring with a leaf spring car. Then we had James Taylor taking the wheel briefly as the history spokesperson at the Beebs request, whist he was still editor of the now long gone Land Rover Enthusiast magazine! A lot may have changed in the 10 years since but there is no doubt that what began in 1948 and from which ever era they was born, these vehicles and their siblings are simply phenomenal. #landrover #landroverdefender #landroverseries #carswithoutlimits
It’s been 3 weeks returned to the UK and 6 weeks since arrived back ‘home’ to Australia for a family Christmas and New Year trip that was very busy and eventful and always nice to look back on. I got to catch up with few my Land Rovers too. Happy Australia Day BTW! #landrover #landroverseries #classiccars
First post for a while after a great and franticly busy few months. A week or so ago was out for spin and took the chance to catch up with @masseyalexander in 1951 model Land Rover 80” LAC295 by @tompickfordlandrover Another vehicle with impeccable provenance. First as at test vehicle for the Belgian military trials that lead to the Minerva Land Rovers. Next a prototype a 2 litre petrol vehicle and most importantly originally dispatched to Land Rovers then head development engineer at the time Mr Arthur Goddard. #landrover #serieslandrover #landroverseries1 #classiccar
Pleasure to be at the Mid Atlantic Rally this weekend with a few of the Expedition vehicles Pollyanna, Oxford and Darien RR. Fantastic to meet up with Rover friends old and new. #landrover #defender #rangerover #landroverdiscovery #serieslandrover
