Traded our tradition of skiing on Christmas for some Southern Utah golf
Always a great time with @coryanett and I’m officially asking for my own set of golf clubs
“Mary Nettleton you are an Ironman” - words I never thought I would hear Mike Reilly say and I’m still crying thinking about it🥹
I honestly don’t even know where to begin but first want to thank my wonderful husband @coryanett for being with me every step of this incredibly long journey of constantly hearing me say “this will be my year” to have Covid race cancellations, leg nerve surgery, broken ankle, torn ligaments and tendons, a couple surgeries, 2 years of PT and finally getting back out there to complete my first 5K back exactly one year ago. Cory has encouraged me and supported me through it all🥰
And thank you to all of my friends and family who cheered me on (and traveled!!) to support me every step of the way 🥹
shoutout to @speedotriman with all of the support this last year with KICKR Lab at the HIVE, coaching plans I largely ignored (sorry busy schedule!) , and cheering me on during the race to the final steps - it would have been a completely different day without you!
I had such a great day out there and did WAY better than I expected!! My goal was to finish before the cutoff (16:40) and my goal based off of training times was 15:30 and somehow pulled off under 15?!
While I consider myself a swammer, I wanted to quit the whole swim - I hate swimming in wetsuits and honestly because I know I can get through the swim not something I put much training effort into. I did a lot of internal pep talking to keep moving even if just kicking on my back to get to T1.
I was really nervous going into the bike but followed the advice I was given - “don’t try to be a hero the first 20 miles just because you feel great” and “don’t coast the downhills still pedal and keep your power”. I had the biggest smile the whole ride and got more confident each lap - this new bike of mine is FUN!! I honestly felt so strong, I didn’t have a moment of pain cave on the bike and was almost sad that part was over!
Surprisingly off the bike I felt so strong and felt good to run (no jello legs) and started out at my training pace. At about mile 12 my knee was done but I knew I just needed to pace myself to the finish line because it was the day to become an Ironman!🥹
