Sometimes the story isn’t about the newest truck in the field. Sometimes it’s about bringing a piece of history back to life.
When Rob MacCachren realized building a new Trophy Truck in time for the King Shocks 39th SCORE San Felipe 250 was nearly impossible, he turned back to the same 2WD truck that first raced in 2013. A truck carrying three SCORE Baja 1000 victories, championships, years of battle scars… and the same worn steering wheel Rob still refuses to replace.
What followed felt like a throwback to another era of SCORE racing.
After battling through brutal qualifying conditions, deep silt, flats in Matomí Wash, failed hydraulic jacks, and miles of blinding dust, MacCachren kept pushing forward. By the time the checkered flag dropped, the veteran had climbed his way to a 2WD class victory and 9th overall against a field stacked with modern SCORE Trophy Trucks.
And somewhere along the way, it reminded everybody of a time when the biggest names in desert racing all fought Baja in two-wheel-drive trucks.

Happy to get the new @bfgoodrichtires Baja T/A KR3 Blue Label on my prerunner for the Baja 500.
This DOT legal version brings race tire DNA to a setup that still sees the pavement, with a road friendly compound and quieter tread design. It’s Load Range C, launching in 37s with more sizes on the way. Thanks to @broncobarn for getting them mounted up for me!
After a great deal of reflection over the past few weeks, I am excited to share that Paul Weel Motorsport will be teaming up with @21robmac for the remainder of the 2026 @scoreinternational Championship.
The team will be rebranding to Paul Weel Motorsport and adopting Rob’s iconic Number 11. A number that has achieved so much down the Baja Peninsula, and it is an absolute honour for us to carry it forward.
Before anything else, I want to take a moment to sincerely thank @redbullusa for their incredible support throughout our partnership. It was an honour to wear the Red Bull helmet and represent a brand with such deep roots within my own family. A full-circle moment and a partnership I will never forget. Thank you.
With seven Baja 1000 overall victories, 17 SCORE Trophy Truck wins and a place in the Off-Road Motorsports Hall of Fame, Rob MacCachren is the real deal. He brings a level of knowledge, experience and credibility that I believe will be invaluable to this program. I am honoured he has agreed to be part of this journey.
In Rob’s own words: “I have been doing this for a very long time and I honestly do not think I have ever felt this level of excitement. Paul has built something very special here and I cannot wait to get behind the wheel of the Gen 2. I am grateful for this opportunity and I am ready to go to work.”
I recently had the opportunity to test our new Gen 2 Mason Motorsport Trophy Truck and I can tell you it is an unbelievable machine. Rob has yet to get behind the wheel, which is something we are all very much looking forward to.
We are set to line up together at the Baja 500 in June and preparations are well underway. To all our partners who have stood by us through this challenging time, thank you. We appreciate it and are looking forward to getting back to business.

Definitely one of the coolest looking trucks in the field. Stoked to have caught it with a ripped fender to give it a little more character screaming down the Baja coastline.
