MOTHFEST was a triumph, a testament to what we can build through community and love.
Let us not forget what it means to be an artist. To speak with intention. To move with purpose. To spell into existence a world that is worth living in for all.
The movement is already in motion. But momentum alone will not protect us. If we fall into the same patterns that held us down before, we will be washed away with them. Innovation is survival. Truth is the only foundation that holds.
Artists hold power, but that power must be sharpened. The community’s role is not just to support, but to listen, and to hold us accountable. Every word we speak is a seed. Whoever we platform, we empower.
In times like these, it is urgent that artists speak and sing the songs of community and unification. Indigenous peoples here and around the world are being exploited. Our tax dollars and energy are being siphoned to uphold systems of violence and extraction. As artists, we must re-divert the consciousness of the people toward what is right.
It is not enough to create. We must speak up. We must use our platforms. Anything less is nonsense.
Only then do we rise. Together. RA.
