SYNTH CITY a 20’ x 20ā€˜ ode to my musical weapon of choice, my duty to shine light on the less obvious genre to make a mural about, and another layer to my lifelong infatuation with the true textures of this gritty city. My 5th for @paintlouisofficial The response has been crazier than expected and y’all are FEELING this one! Although my angle was specifically modular synthesizes, having people shout out boomboxes and guitar amps also made me smile. Quote of the weekend was ā€œI don’t know what it is, but he engineered SUMTHIN!ā€ šŸ˜Ž This was a new style for me (or a return to my old ways if we go way back) I had never done my ā€œMelded Machinesā€ series in color and this was my first time working this loose and fuzzy with cans. Also…is this my first trompe-l’œil??? For those that wonder It was about 28 hours at the wall spread over 4 sessions Visit Synth City and the rest of The Flood Wall, a.k.a. The Mural Mile (actually about 3mi) it’s legendary, an enormous influence upon a young 18aC, and holds a long linage and evolution of style upon styles. It’s frankly one of the coolest things in STL and is a rare gem on a global scale. Jus sayin… Big up and thank you to @bryanwalshart @baccarre and the many human components that make Paint Louis happen šŸ¤˜šŸ¾ šŸ“· 2 @2ndstoryvisuals 6 @touchfreak 7 @reiheld 8 @bythearch 9 @fairpl4y 10 @nicholas.e.white

šŸŽØšŸ”„ A BIG UPDATE from the Saint Louis Artist of the Month Program! šŸ”„šŸŽØ We just experienced a major first in the history of the program… and honestly, we did not think this scenario would happen this quickly! šŸ˜„ For the May Edition of the Saint Louis Artist of the Month, an artist received 3 separate nominations in the very first round, which automatically qualifies them as the Artist of the Month Winner! (Unless there is a tie with another artist receiving 3 or more nominations, which would then move the competition to the Judges Final Round.) Well… this month there was no tie. šŸ‘ šŸ† Congratulations to ā€œ18andCountingā€ — the official May 2026 Saint Louis Artist of the Month Winner! 18andCounting has been consistently nominated month after month and continues to make a strong impact through his creativity, dedication, and community involvement. Not only is he an excellent visual artist, but he is also a musician and teacher who continues to inspire others through multiple creative platforms for over 2 decades. Note: Due to the automatic win, the remaining nominees from May will automatically be added to the June nomination roster. A Congratulations to all the nominees of this important community program. We will see you back in June! šŸ‘ Congratulations again to 18andCounting! See you on FOX2 tomorrow! #StLouisArtistOfTheMonth #STLArts #SupportLocalArtists #ArtistRecognition

Give STL Day closes tonight and you should consider donating to @newmusiccircle . Beyond serving on their board, I was blessed and fitting enough to perform last winter with @supermandamnfool in a rare extended rap\modular\visuals set. That type of deep, explorative and inspiring sound art has been pushed by NMC for 67 years and is fueled by your attention and financial generosity. LINK IN BIO —— Full performance of the set pictured drops on YouTube soon. Filmed and edited by @2ndstoryvisuals

Going deep into Trip-Hop last month got a lot of positive reactions @notastl so we’re doing that again. The funny thing is ((in my mind)) EVERY set I’ve ever played goes that route, Or at least exists in the spirit of Trip-Hop and the idea of raw analog experimental merging of cultures and time. - I don’t know, maybe being on the nose with mega intention isn’t such a bad thing. Ya boy does all over the place really well. No one mixes like 18. I say it cause I’m told it… But lemme try to sit still for y’all… I’ll try. - Sunday. 8p-11p. Vinyl collector’s passion. Dark & hazy, sexy & steady, soulful crescendo music. Retire the word ā€œVibeā€ this year. - šŸ“· @amostramel

Rey Hernandez shares three drawings and paintings he’s been working on recently. ā€œSometimes when it just gets monotonous, I have to do something creative,ā€ Hernandez said. ā€œSo if you just throw me your favorite color, favorite animal, then I got to figure out a way to get creative and just get outside my box.ā€ Hernandez and others have spent the past year honing their craft as part of SLU’s Prison Arts and Education Program while detained at the Eastern Reception, Diagnostic and Correctional Center in Bonne Terre. The initiative is part of the university’s prison education program in which inmates can earn a degree or take classes. A group of prison artists has been learning how to draw, paint and use mixed media for a gallery exhibition and murals. About 130 pieces are on display as part of ā€œExpressions from Within: Art from SLU’s Prison Education Program.ā€ The exhibit includes a wide array of work from incarcerated artists who can live outside the prison walls. It runs through April 12. For 16 years, SLU staff and hired artists have held artist talks and taught classes at the maximum security prison. Last year, the university altered the program when it launched an artist residency led by Stan Chisholm, a St. Louis-based visual artist and musician who performs as @18andcounting . Chisholm travels to the prison twice a week, where he started the program’s open studio. Artists can ask him questions, work on techniques and just be themselves. Artists are also collaborating on a mural project on walls throughout the prison. One includes paintings of the spines of their favorite books. The other side of the wall includes paintings of the PietĆ  and the patron saints of education. Outside of the mural project, the gallery submissions include portraits of civil rights and humanitarian activists like the Rev. Martin Luther King Jr., Malcolm X, John Brown and Mother Teresa. Program organizers wanted to make sure artists got to decide what happens to their pieces after the exhibit ends. Tap the link in our bio for the full story about the initiative. āœļø: Chad Davis šŸ“ø: Cristina Fletes-Mach | @cristinafletesmach
